PAD HOLDER.
,application filed 'iily 28,
'My invention relates to pad holders and has for its object to `provide a pad holder which may readily be punched out oit a single sheet of metal, adopted to lirnily and positively hold he pad supported upon the saine. l
Another object is to provide a body ineinber having a transverse slot extending' aci" the top of the saine, in which positi Aed a bar spaced from the said body portion,
so as te receive some et the loaves of the pad, to hold the saine in glace.
A still further object is to provide out- Wai-diy turned flanges along said bar and the body of the holder adjacent said slot Afor holding` the pad from lateral movement and ifor connecting said har to the body portion.
A still further object is to provide'the said bar and 'the edges of the body adjacent the slot With outwardly turned edges for permittingI the leaves or back ot the pad to be readily inserted beneath the said bar.
The full objects and advantages ot my invention will appear in connection` Wit-h the detailed description thereof, and are particularly pointed out in the claims.
ln the drawings forming part et this specification Fig. l is a plan vievv of' my invention.
Fig. 2 is a side vieiv oit the same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view ot the invention, showing a pad mounted thereon.
Figure l is a `tragmentary, sectional vieiv illustrating` the manner of striking up the bar from the body.
In the construction of pad holders it is highly desirable to provide a pad holder which shall be cheap to construct and Which Will effectively hold a pad mounted thereon, so that the pad can be readily removed and replaced by a new one when desired. lt is also desirable to produce a device which will not readily get out et order. My invention overcomes these difficulties as Will be presently comprchended.
My invention as shown in the drawings, consists of a holder A which is torined with a iiat plate-like body portion l0. This plate is preferably of a size suit-able to provide a portion extending` beneath the pad to be' held, so that the said pad may be conveniently 'Written npon. At the upper end of the body l0, l provide an outwardly extendn 1922. Serial No. 5If'8,f?'l.
ing; ear ll which is formed with an opening l2 near the outer end ot the same. By means of this opening the pad holder may be lily attached to the person o'i' the user il the same should be desired. y
'lhc device for holding the pad in place upon the holder A., can best be seen in Figs. l and 3. Across the upper portion of the body meinber l adjacent the car 1l, l provide a 'transverse slot 18 which extends coinpletely across the saine. Across this slot, l provide a transverse bar 14.- Which struck om the metal of the body n o aber l() and i" rel tive thereto, to form a passziigeivay l5, positioned between` the said bar A and holy l0. The har le is held tached to the holder A by means o1L tivo upwardly extending tlanges 16, best shown in Fig. 2, yiositioned, at the sides ot the device, at the end oi" the slot i3 and bar lll. These iianpges as Well as supporting the bar ld and connecting the upper and lower portions the body member l0 adjacent .the slot 18, also serve to torni As for holding the said pad properly positioned upon the holder A. The con 'ruction of the holder as before stated permits the saine to be stamped ont of a single piece of metal and the` bar let to be sti-noli: out trein the body l0 so to provide the slot 13 in said body and the space l5 bete/een said bar and body.
ln -usingv the device, a pad ot paper ot checks or any other desirable pad such indicated at 18 in Fig. 3, which has its end stitched together at 1'?, may be used. lr" the pad 18 is provided with a back, the said back is inserted between the bar le and the body member sind slidden downwardly until the said bar le becomes firmly embedded between the leaves of the pad, adjacent the stitching` at 17. The pad 18 should be ot such a size as to just snugly lit between the tivo iianges 16, so that when the saine is positioned with its bach belorv the bar lfl, the said pad 18 firmly held in place upon the holder. Then a pad. is used, which does not have a back secured to the same, the last live or six leaves et the pad may be inserted beneath the bar lol in a similar manner to hold the said pad prop erly mounted upon the holder A.
To facilitate the insertion of t-he back oi the pad or the last leaves et the saine beneath the bar 14, I form the bar ll with an upwardly turned edge 19 extending completely across the saine. In a similar manner, I turn the edges 2O and 21 of the bodjT member 10 adjacent the slot 18 downwardly so that when the back or last leaves of the pad 18 are directed into the space 15, the edges thereof engage the inclined surfaces of the portions 19 and 21 of the invention, which properly direct the passage of the said back and leaves through the space 15, so that 'the pad occupies the proper position upon the holder. In this manner, the pad is quickly and securely attached to the holder. If theback or leaves of pad 18 upon being inserted between the edges 19 and 20 of bar 14 and body member 10 respectively fall below the edge 21, the said leaves or back may easily be raised upwardly by the manipulation of the lingers through the space 15 and upon t-he face of the body member 10.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have described the principles of operation of my invention, together with trie apparatus which I now consider to represent trie best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the construction shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set forth within the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A pad holder comprising a body portion, a pair of spaced flanges bent outwardly from said body portion `at right angles thereto, a bar struck out of the metal of said body by severing the body in two parallel lines extending across said body from flange to flange, the ends of said bar beingcompressed to cause the same to be raised above said body in spaced relation thereto, said bar issuing outwardly from and being integrally connected with said flanges, said ilanges eX- tending outwardly beyond said bar, and obliquely turned edges formed on said bar and body portion for guiding the passage of sheets of a pad between said bar and body portion.
2. A pad holder comprising a body portion, a pair of flanges bent upwardly from the metal of said body portion and a bar integrally connected with said flanges, and extending across said body portion in spaced relation thereto.
3. A pad holder comprising a body portion, a pair of flanges bent outwardly from the ends of said body portion, a bar extending across said body portion, struck out from the metal of said body portion to form a slot, said bar being spaced from said body portion and connected to said lianges.
d. A pad holder comprising a body portion, a bar extending across said body portion, struck out from the metal of said body portion to form a transverse slot, said bar being spaced from said body portion and a pair of langes bent outwardly from said body portion at the ends of said bar, for holding the saine supported and for connecting the portions of said body portion adjacent said slet.
5. A pad holder comprising a body portion having a slot extending` across the une, a bar positioned in spaced relation to said body portion over said slot and obliquely turned edges formed on said bar and .said body portion adjacent said slot.
6. A pad holder comprising a body portion having a longitudinal slot extending across one end thereof, to form upper and lower body sections, a bar extending over and spaced from said slot for holding the pad mounted on said holder and an ear issuing outwardly from said body section, having a hole through the same.
7. A pad holder comprising a plate-like body portion, flanges bent up from the sides of said body portion at one end thereof and a bar struck out from the metal of said body portion integrally connected with said flanges, being spaced in relation to said body portion.
8. A holder including a body portion, a bar struck up from the body portion, end upright Hanges adapted to reinforce the bar at the ends thereof, extending transversely of said bar and obliquely projecting edges on either side of said bar formed in the back! of said. body portion adapted to reinforce the body portion adjacent the edges of said bar.
