soniirnn ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December 13, 1927. Serial No. 239,760.
This invention relates to a scraper attachment and it is primarily an object of the invention to provide an attachment of this kind especially designed and adapted for use in connection with a ridge buster.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this kind which is particularly adapted for use in wet weather and which, when in use, serves to provide eflicient means to free the discs of mud or wet earth which may have a tendency to roll up on the discs.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrange ment of the several parts of our improved scraper attachment whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of our invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that our invention may be the better understood, we will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a View in front elevation of a scraper attachment constructed in accordance with an embodiment of our invention, the coacting portions of a ridge buster being indicated in fragment by broken lines;
Figure 2 is a view in end elevation of the structure illustrated in Figure 1, the associated portions of the buster being also diagrammatically indicated by broken lines.
Our improved attachment comprises a bar 1, one end portion of which being adapted to be secured by the clamps 2 to the axle 3 or disc arm of a ridge buster. The opposite end portion of the bar 1 is angular-1y related with re spect to said end portion with which the clamps 2 coact and said second or inclined end portion of the bar 1 has disposed therethrough the holding bolts 4: which are directed through a slot 5 provided in the angular end portion 6 of the bar 7 The second end portion of the bar 1 is disposed on an upward and inward incline with respect to the bar 3 and beyond the axial center of the adjacent disc D. The angular portion 6 of the bar 7 overlies the angular portion of the bar 1 and the slot 5 therein permits a relative adjustment between the bars 1 and 7 as the requirements of practice may require.
The bar 7 is of a length to extend over and above the discs D comprised in the ridge buster. Coacting with each of the discs D is a scraper 8 substantially semicircular in form and which is riveted, as at 9, or otherwise se- 7 cured to the lower or free end portion of a scraper arm 10 depending from the bar 7. The upper portion of the scraper arm 10 is provided with an angular extension or foot 11 which underlies the bar 7 and has direct contact therewith. This extension or foot 11 has disposed lengthwise thereof a slot 12 through which is directed a pair of holding bolts 14 fixedly directed through the bar 7-. The arm 9 is disposed on a forward incline and also inclined toward the concave face of the disc D. By this means the scraper arm 10 and the scraper 8 carried thereby may be readily adjusted as required with respect to the coacting disc D.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a scraper attachment constructed in accordance with our invention is particularly Well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that our invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason We do not wish to be understood as limiting ourselves to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out our invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
We claim i v In a ridge buster, the combination with a disc and an axle therefor, a scraper attachment including a bar having an angular end portion, means for clamping said angular end portion of the bar to the axle, the remaining portion of the bar being upwardly disposed and forwardly and inwardly inclined with respect to the bar and beyond the axial center of the disc, a second bar overlying the disc and having a concave face, means for securing the second bar to the upper portion of the first bar,
a scraper arm depending from the second bar, said second bar being forwardly inclined and also inclined toward the concave face of the disc, a scraper carried by said arm for coaction with the disc, said second bar having an extension overlying the upper portion of the first bar, and :means for connecting the second bar to the first bar and coacting with such extension.
In testimony whereof We hereunto aifix 10 our signatures.
ROMMY DAVIS. KENT MONROE DAVIS.
