Description

G. R. EAGER.
OVERALLS.
Patented Jan. 11, 1876.
No.17Z,100.
\ PETERS, FHOTO-LITHOGRAPHEE' WASHINGTON D C UNITE STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. EAGER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN OVERALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,100, dated January 11, 1876; application filed March 19, 1875.
CASE D. i
scriptionthereof, which will enable others.
skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents an isometrical perspective view of a pair of pants to which my improvement has been applied; and Fig. 2, a partial horizontal section of the same as taken through the hollow waistband, the strap being shown uncut. Fig. 3 represents a modification of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4, a transverse section of Fig. 3, taken through the hollow waistband, the strap being uncut.
My invention relates to a modification in the method of adjusting garments to persons of different sizes patented to me June 11, 1872. In that patent the buckle and adjusting-strap were shown as applied to the side. This arrangement, while it embodies the broad principle of the present improvement, is thought to be somewhat less convenient to manage than it ought otherwise to be, and is here sought to be remedied.
My improvement consists in the arrangement of the buckle and connecting end of the adjusting-strap in the front part of the 'garment.
To enable others skilled in the art to make, construct, and use my improvement, I will now proceed to describe it in detail, omitting a particular description of such parts as are old and not essential to a full understanding of this improvement, here promising that the invention is equally applicable to all kinds of pantaloon and other garments, such as pautaloons, drawers, overalls, blouses, 85c.
* In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, A represents the front, and B the rear, side of the pants, they being made to open in front, in the ordinary way, although such is a mere matter of choice in the manufacture, but it is preferred to do so. a'represents the hollow waistband, the openings III) for the passage of the ends of the adjusting-strap 0 being arranged at a short distance from the buttoned portion, at the middle of the front side of the pants. The one end of this strap 0 is stitched fast to the band a, as shown at b, the fasteningbuckle 0 being attached to the stitched end.
The modification of this plan shown in Figs. 3 and 4 differs only in that the openings b and b are made at a point immediately adjoining the button andbutton-hole at the opening in the middle of the front side of the pants, and
in that the strap 0 is unattached to the waistband. This in some respects is better than the first mode, as it allows the garment to be drawn or gathered simultaneously on both sides. I
It is apparent that the improvement in question is as applicable to blouses and other such garments as pants, drawers, overalls, &c.
Having described my improvement, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hollow waistband for pantaloons and other garn'ients, when constructed and provided with a buckle and strap arranged to connect atthe frontside of the garment, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
