STITCH REMOVER Filed June 4, 1928 aglawmegmm Patented .luly 2, 1929. affita RAY PALMER, on LAMAR, Missionar.
STITCH REMOVER.
Application filed .T'une 4, 1928. Serial No. 282,606".v
This invention has reference to shoe repairing machinery, the primary object of the 1nvehtion being to provide a device for removing stitches from the shoe welt, after the s ole has been removed, preparatory to renewing the sole.
An important object of the invention is the provision of a rotary member having teeth to he held directly over the stitches and moved Hl along the welt with the result that the teeth will 'catch in the stitches pulling the same from the welt.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rotary member of this character so constructed that it will efficiently remove stitches from blind or channel sewed soles.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds the inventionresides in the com ination andarrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodimentl of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure lis a view illustrating the use of a device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of the rotary picker to be used in removing the usual sewed soles. i
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional View i, through the rotary picker and its supporting bearing.
Figure f1 is a sectional view through the rotary picker used for removing channel sewed stitches.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the de vice embodies a bracket including sections 5 and G respectively, the sections being-adjust ably secured together by means of the bolt 7 and. winged nut 8. One end of the section 5 is formed into a loop 9 to be slid over a suitable supporting rod, which in the present showing is indicated at 10, the loop portion being secured against movement by means of the bolt 11.
The section 6 is twisted so that the loop end 12 thereof extends in parallel relation with the member 10,-where it supports the bearing 13 that carries friction pulley 141 at its outer end. l This pulley 14 is mounted on the outer end of the shaft 15 to which the flexible shaft 16 is connected. i
At the free end of the flexible shaft is a housing 17 formed with internal threads to engage the external threads of the member 18 through which the shaft 19 extends. A head 2() is formed at the inner end of the shaft 19, which head has a. notch to accommodate the rib 21 on the end of the flexible sha-ft, to removably connect the flexible shaft and shaft 19. i i
One end of the shaft 19 is squared as at 22 to fit wit-hin the squared opening-of the hub 23 of the stitch picking member 24 which is formed with curved teeth 25 arranged in the periphery thereof, the curvature of the teeth being such as to cause the teeth to engage the stitches and remove them from the welt of the shoe.
The member 24 is secured to the shaft 19 by means of the screw 26 that has a head 27 fitted in a recess of the rotary member 211.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figure 4, the rotary member 23 is provided with teeth 25 that are pointed, to the end that thc teeth will operate within the channel of a channel sewed sole, to remove the threads therefrom.
In the use of the device, it is to be under# stood that the bracket is secured' in any suitable place on the frame of the usual shoe repair machine, so that the pulley 14 will contact with the power belt which in the present showing is indicated by the reference character A.
It is obvious that as the picker rotates the operator may by holding the picker into engagement with the welt of the shoe, remove the stitches left when the worn out sole has been cut from t-hc shoe.
I claim:
1. A shoe sole stitch removing device including a flexible shaft, a housing at the outer end of the shaft, a shaft supported within the housing and connected with the flexible shaft and rotated by the flexible shaft, the second mentioned shaft having a squared outer eX- tremity, a Wheel having a hub formed with a squared opening to accommodate the squared end of the shaft, and teeth on the wheel.
2. A shoe sole stitch removing device in- PATENT OFFICE.-
cluding a bracket, a flexible shaft, means supported by the bracket for rotating the flexible shaft, a housing at the free end of the fiexible shaft, said housing including separable mem- 5 bers, a shaft'within the housing and having a head engaging one end of one of the members to hold the shafts in engagement With each other, and a removable picking member mounted at the outer end of the last menti oued shaft to rotate therewith.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing' as my own, I have hereto aiiixed my signature.
RAY PALMER.
