UMBER'I'O nanronnrrr, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
ADVERTISING CABINET.
Application filed January 151, 1928. Serial No. 247,667.
This invention relates to advertising devices of the variable reading type.
An object of the invention comprehends closure members for the housing adapted to open and close with the changing of the advertiiaiing l'natter.
An additional object of the invention cmbodies a multiplicity of roller members adapted to carry a 1lvertising matter visible upon the opening of the doors.
lvfore specifically stated, the roller members are provided with advertisement carrying surfaces adapted to be selectively exposed.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction,.to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention partly broken away to illustrate the construction thereof.
Figure 2 a vertical sectional View through the invention taken at right angles to Figure 1..
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4L is a transverse sectional view taken through a portion of the device and illustrating the closure operating means.
Figure 5 is a detail view of the roller construction.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote correspending parts, the reference character indicates a housing provided with closure nnunbers or doors 11. upon one side. Plate members 12 carried within the housing 10 and disposed in slight spaced relation to the opposed side walls thereof are adapted to journal the extremities of shaft members 13 carrying blocks 141, preferably triangularshaped in cross section. Ratchetgears 15, fixed to the shaft members 13, are adapted for simultaneous rotation therewith in one direction, retrograde movementbeingchecked by dogs or pawls 16 carried by the plate members 12. Gear members 17 mounted upon the shaft members 13 operate the converse of the pawl and ratchet connections and inasmuch as a plate auxiliary to either of the plates 12 would necessarily be employed to install a reverse ratchet connection, I have provided slotted portions 18 within the gear members 17 within which roller members 19 may operate. '.lliegears 17, when rotated in the direction of the arrow, as illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawings, will cause the roller members 19 to rotate upon the shaft 18 and find their way within the smaller portions of the slots 18. Such action will cause ljiin'ding between the rollers, gears and shaft members. Such construction permits reciprocating movement to a rack bar 20, meshingly engaged with the gear members 17.
'llhe operating means consists of a motor 21 having connection with a gear 22 through. a train of gears 23. A bell crank lever 24, pivotally mounted, as at 25, within the housin g 11.) and between the plate members 12, 1% provided with a cut-out portion or portion removed, such as indicated at 26, adapted to receive a stud 26, laterally projecting from the low irmost end of the rack bar 20. A bar 28 pivotally and slidably connected with the reverse end of the bell crank lever 24 is eccentrically mounted, as indicated at 29 upon the gear member 22. Rotation of the motor 21 will. therefore cause reciprocating movement to the rack bar 20, which due to the aforementioned connection, will rotate the shaft members 13 a given distance in one direction to dispose other surfaces of the triangular blocks 14. The surfaces of the blocks are adapted to carry any suitable advertising matter.
A bearing member 30, carried upon one of the plate members 1.2, is adapted to prevent displacement of the rod member 28 from the gear 22. The latter mentioned gen r is mounted upon a shaft member 31. A disk member 32, fixed to the shaft 31, is provided with a. race-way including a path or course 3 1 in the nature of a cam. A lever pivotally mounted. for rocking n'lovcment, as indi cated at #36, upon a bracket 37, is provided with a roller member 38 adapted for reception within the raceway 33. A rod 39, pivotally mounted upon the lowermost end of the lever 35, is adapted for connection at its opposite end with a bell crank lever 41) pivoted as indicated at 41 within the bottom of the housing 10.
The closures or doors 1.1 are swingably mounted upon pins 42 having spur gears 43 upon the lower ends thereof and adapted for meshing engagement with teeth 4. 1, provided upon the inner-sides of boxings 15. A rod 46 is adapted for connection with the boxings to facilitate simultaneous opening and closing of said. doors. Such movement effected through the instrumentality of a pin 47, up-
standing from therod 46 and adapted for reception Within an elongated slot 48, provided Within the opposed end of the bell crank lever 40. Lateral shifting movement of the bell crank lever will impart sinmltaneous movement to the rod 46 to open and close the doors 11. Due to the fact that the gear 22 is also fixedly connected with the shaft 31, the rack bar will operate simultaneously therewith. to partially rotate the shaft members 13 to expose different advertisement surfaces upon the opening and closing of the doors.
Due to the fact that the blocks 1 1- are tridetails of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is An advertising device comprising a housmg provided with hingedly connected closure members, a multiplicity of shafts journalcd within the housing being disposed immediately behind said closure members, blocks carried by the shafts having a multiplicity of advertising surfaces, ratchet gears carried by each of the shafts adapted for engagement with pawls mounted upon adjacent portions of the housing, gear members also carried by the shafts, a rack bar mounted for reciprocating action within the housing and adapted for meshing engagement with the gear members, means causing the gear members to rotate the shafts when rotated in one direction and to permit them to turn freely on. the shafts when rotated in an opposite direction, spur gears carried upon the lower most ends of the hingedly connected ortions of the closures, a rod having toothed boxings upon the ends thereof engageahle with the spur gears. bell crank levers having connection with each the rack bar and rod, and an operating shaft member adapted for connection with the bell crank levers to simultaneously expose the different advertising surfaces of the blocks with the opening of the closures.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
UMBERTO BARTOLETTI.
