Application filed m 20, 1928. Serial No. 294,097.
This inventionrelates to brassieres and has for its object to provide an improved I -Referring to the drawing, the brassiere includes a continuous front section 1 of relgarment which may be used as a flat bans atively soft material-which is out according dean brassiere or may be adjusted at the #4) any desired 5 front to fit the figure ofthe wearer, to mold the busts as required, and to secure any desired degree of uplift.
Brassieres are commonly provided with horizontal ribbons or strings which may be adjusted to tighten or loosen the edges which encircle the body of the wearer, but such adjustment has no uplift or other corrective effect upon the busts. Also, parallel drawstrings have-been placed vertlcally between/the breast portions of a brasslere to draw the upper and lower edges of the garmenttogether and provide a justable pockets for receiving the breasts. This latter construction, however, merely var es the size of the pockets without adjusting them at all points to fit and mold the form ofthe wearer. The inability of such garments to fit the form snugly causes the material-between the pockets to pro ect from the bod over the breast bone and makes it" impossi le to obtain a correct uplift form.
The present invention provides an im-- proved brassiere especially adapted to confine and uplift the busts, and which may be worn as a flat brassiere or'adjusted to obtain any desired uplift or correctiveeffect. Ad-
justment is obtained by means of draw strings disposed diagonally on opposite sides of the center-line between the breast portions of the garment. The drawstrings thus act in straight lines which taper outwardly from the to toward the lower edge of the garment and may be drawn up as desired to form snug pouches which receive the 40 busts. The diagonal drawstrings cause the pouches to fit in around the lower parts of the busts and hold the central portion of the brassiere snugly over the breast bone without slipping.
The invention will be described in connection with a short brassiere, but it is equally applicable to combinations, long brassieres, and other similar garments.
In the accompanying drawing:
- Fig. 1 is a front View of a brassiere embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a front view of a torso showing the brassiere applied thereto'with the drawstrings adjusted; and

style or pattern and, in the I atively narrow end sections 2 and 3. A tab 4 of elastic fabric is stitched tothe end section 3 and provided with hooks which (:0-
.operate with eyes on the tab 5 stitched to Drawstrings 8 are run through diagonal passages or channels 9 formed by narrow tapes stitched on opposite sides of a vertical center-line in the front section 1. The assages 9 are preferably substantially straight, as shown in Fig. 1, and converge upwardly to the upper edge of the garment. The drawstrings preferably have theirlower ends stitched to the lower edge of the garment. By drawing up the strings 8 the material of the front section 1 is gathered in to form pouches 10 which receive, mold and support the busts, as shown in Fig. 2..
I The brassiere may be adjusted to confine the busts in any desired manner or worn as a flat bandeau brassiere. The drawstrings 8 may also be drawn up and tied in a bow, as shown, to confine and draw up the busts to give an desired degree of uplift or corrective e ect. The diagonal drawstrings, when tightened, cause'a rounding at the lower edge of the pouches 10 and to cause the pouches to fit in underneath the lower parts of the busts as shown in Fig. 3, to mold the busts and secure a correct uplift form. The close fitting of the pouches beneath the lower parts of the busts causes the central portion .of the garment between the pouches to fit snugly against the figure over the breast bone and prevents slipping. The same beneficial results are obtained when the invention is embodied in combination or onepiece garments.
