UNITED STATES IRA W. LIVINGSTON, OF BRIDGEPORT, OHIO.
HOUSEHOLD REMINDER.
Application ied April 10, 1928.
rlhis invention relates to household reminders, and it has for its primary object to provide a simple, inexpensive and convenient form of memoramlum device by means of which may be indicated the various articles of a stock of goods which require replenishment or replacement.
A further object is to provide a memorandum device in which is permanently listed the various articles required in a household, store,` or stcwards pantry, and embodying conveniently shiftable means whereby may be visually indicated those goods or articles wanted or required to supply any deficiency in the stock of goods ordinarily carried.
A still further object is to provide a device of the character mentioned having the form of a book and which, therefore, may be furnished in a size or sizes in which it is adapted to be conveniently received in a shoppers purse or handbag.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is herein had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a face view ofthe invention laid open for use;
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the same;
Figure 3 is a face view of a detached leaf; and- Figures 4 and 5 are sections of the same taken, respectively, on line 4 4 and 5 5, Fig. 3.
Referring to said drawings, the numeral l designates generally each of a plurality of card-like members which are bound together in the manner of the leaves of a book and which are enclosed by book backs or covers 2.
Vhile said members may be attached or secured in place relative to said covers in any preferred manner, I have herein shown, for purposes of illustration, the inner edges of adjacent members to be attached together by means of strips 3 of a suitable tape,` preferably made of a strong woven fabric, and the inner edges of the first and last leaves to be similai-ly attached to the adjacent cover members 2. Said strips have their opposite edge portions, which are attached to the leaves by any appropriate means, as by a suitable adhesive, relatively foldable upon each other, as is shown in Fig. 3.
Each leaf 1 is of laminated form, being composed of three layers 4, 5 and 6, preferably of card board sheets having appropriate thickness, which are permanently secured together, as by means of a suitable interposed Serial No. 268,830.
adhesive substance or coating. The -middle sheet or layer 5 of each leaf is provided adj acent to each of its opposite edges with a perpendicular row of relatively spaced slots 7, each disposed horizontally and having a. length exceeding its width, said rows being arranged at a substantial distance apart.
Each of the outer sheets 4 and 6 is provided with a single perpendicular row or column of relatively spaced display openings S, the openings of the sheet 4 having materially less length than the slots 7 of sheet 5 and being so located that they register with the inner end portions of one vof the rows of said slots, while the openings of the sheet 6 correspond to those of sheet 4 and register with the inner end portions of the other row of slots 7 of sheet 5.
Each leaf carries on its opposite faces, or upon the exposed faces of the sheets 4 and 6, the names 9 of the various articles usually kept in stock, or goods which are likely to be required from time to time, as bacon, beans, butter, etc., said names being located opposite the various display openings 8, as shown.
Fitted for sliding movements within each of the slots 7 of the middle layer is a metallic strip l0 which has an end turned at a right angle thereto to form a lip or lug 11 which is directed outwardly through the adjacent display opening 8 in position to be engaged by a finger whereby slidin(y movement may be imparted to the strip. laid strip, which has a length less than that of the slot 7 in which it is shiftable and also exceeding that of the display opening through which its lip 11 projects, has its face, or that portion of its face which is exposable through the adjacent display opening 8, colored to contrast sharply with the color of the surface of the page, thereby to render readily discernible any strip which has been shifted to an inwardly disposed position relative to the column of names 9 for indicating an article wanted.
It will be noted that the opposite sides of each leaf, as herein described, are utilized in the manner of the pages of a book, thus effecting a substantial economy in space as well as in cost of manufacture; also that, due to the provision of a plurality of leaves arranged in book form, the same may be made of such small dimensions that it may be conveniently carried in a ladys purse or handbag while shopping.
lVhat is claimed is- A memorandum of the type set forth, in-
cluding a central and outer sheets secured together in face to face relation, said central sheet having a vertical row of horizontal slots, one of the outer sheets having a vertical row of display openings of less length than the length of the slots and arranged 'in register with the inner ends of the respective slots of the rows of the centralsheet, a slidingindicator strip in each of the slots having its inner 'end 'bent 'outwardly at right angles to form a 'finger grip which extends through and operates :in the adjacent display opening of the outer sheet, and article indicia on the outer sheets adjacent and opposite to the display openings thereof, the outer faces oi the indicators adjacent to said linger grips thereof having display nieans thereon whereby when 4said finger grips are at the inner ends o'l2 the display openings said display means openings.
ln testimony whereof, I ailix my signature.
IRA W LIVINGSTON.
