This invention relates generally to protecting devices for babies drinking bottles, and has more particular reference to a novel sanitary cover for the-nipple thereof. It is common among parents when with babies, indoors or outdoors, in subways, automobiles, street-cars, or when visiting friends or summer resorts, or with baby carriages in parks, etc., which is usually from two to six hours daily, -to carry nursing bottles. When thus carried, the nipple is usually on the bottle and exposed to contamination-from dust,

One object of the invention is to provide a protecting cover adapted for use in covering nipples on, baby bottles, so constructed and arranged that the-cover will be firmly held in position, but can be readily removed when the bottle is to be used. The other object of the invention is to provide a protecting cover of the character specified so constructed that it can readily be adapted as a protecting cover for the following articles used by babies daily and which are usually carried exposed to disease germs endangering the babies health: nipples, pacifiers, teething bones and cover for the bottle when so the nipple is not on it. It may also be used as a funnel in filling the bottle. The cover may have an advertisement on it of some baby article. I The invention has for another object the provision of a device of the class mentioned which isvof simple durable construction, d'esirable and efficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a very reason able cost. 7

Fig. 12 is another model of a nipple cover made in a cone shape with sharp apex. The lower end may then be bent or squeezed in around the neck of the bottle by theuser or buyers hand or rubberband, or it may be corrugated by machine by the manufacturer.

A blank 15 for forming the sanitary .cover 16 shown engaged on the bottle 12, comprisesv a sector shaped sheet having the arc ends indicated by numeral 17, and having a flange 18 integral with one of the sides thereof. The flange 18 isgummed on one side. The lower end 17 may then be bent or squeezed around the neck of the bottle, or may be corrugated by the manufacturer.

' It is to be understood that the covers shown in- Figs. 7, 8 and 10 are held fric'tionally by the portions 13' of the nipple 13 which are forced over'fianges 12 of bottles 12. The lower ends 17 of the sanitary covers may be flared somewhat to allow the covers to be easily placed on the nipples and where part 13' of the nipple is squeezed or contracted the angle of the conical periphery is changed to more closely correspond with the shape of the nipple. This contraction of the cap beneath the flange of the nipple or rim of the bottle causes the cap to grip both the nipple and the bottle so firmly that it will not accidently come loose. The degree to which the cover will grip the nipple and bottle will depend toan extent upon the stifiness and character of the paper or other material of which the cap is made, In the conoidal forms, the cover may engage the top as well asthe base portion of the nipple, automatically fitting itself to the outline of the nipple, bracing the nipple against collapsing forces and, in turn being thereby attached to the nipple and bottle. The squeezing of the skirt portion of the cap inwardly beneath the base of the nipple steadies the nipple-on the bottle, aiding in preventing the nipple from becoming accidently detached and this contraction also in effect locks the cover against both the shoulder of the bottle at the base of the neck and beneath the usual bead surrounding-the mouth of the bottle.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming Within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I olaim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: i

1. As a new article of manufacture, alcover for the nipple of a babys nursing bottle,

having sufficient stiffness to retain the generally conical shape when engaged over'a nipple, said paper cover being of a length to extend down over and beyond the base of the nipple to thereby provide a dependent skirt flexible paper cover in detachable protective relation over the nipple.
