Description
May 21, 1929 F. E. HOFFMAN TWINE CABINET Filed Jan. 25, 1928 @www Patented May 2l, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK E. HOFFMAN, OF LARCI-IMONT, NEW YORK.
TWINE CABINET.
Application led January 25, 1928. Serial No. 249,370.
Objects of the present invention are to facilitate the sale of twine units or balls by attractively displaying and conveniently delivering the same; and another object of the invention is to provide a cabinet or devlce adapted to perform these functions and of attractive appearance, simple constructionand convenient operation. l
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description at the end of which the invention will be claimed but, generally stated, the invention may be said to comprise a twine cabinet of stamped sheet metal, inexpensively constructed and including a shell having at its base a curved hopper provided with a forwardly projecting upturned lip and open` at the front and ends, and open top and open front upright chutes communicating with the hopper and adapted to retain a supply of balls of string and to deliver the same to the hopper and against the lip in position to be grasped at the hollow core by human fingers inserted through the openings provided at the ends of the hopper and to be with rawn through the opening provided at t e front of the hopper. The cabinet also includes a wire foldable easel by whic it is supported on the easel and on the curved wall of the hopper.
' In the following description reference will be made to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, and
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view. i
In the drawing the cabinet consists of a hollow shell which can be made of stamped metal and the parts can be conveniently connected by cold riveting. At the base of the shell there is a curved hopper 1 provided with an upturned lip 2 andv open at the front and at the ends There are open top and open front upright chutes 4 con'imunicating with the hopper and adapted to retain asupply of balls of string, ofwhich one, a, is shown, and to deliver the same to the hopper l and .against the lip 2 in position to be grasped at the hollow core b by human fingers and to be withdrawn through the opening provided at the front of the hopper. The hopper is wide enough to permit either of the two balls of string that rest upon itand support supershown as extending upward and provided with an opening9 b means of which the cabinet can be suspen ed.
In use the chutes are filled with balls or units of twine of which the lower ones are supported in the hopper-and the upper ones are visible through the open fronts of the chutes displaying any bandlike labels that may be placed around them. rlhe appearance ofthe cabinet is attractive and it affords space for advertising. Inasmuch as the balls in the hopper are presented with their hollow coresexposed and freely accessible, it is a very easy matter to lift them out of the cabinet one at a time and in doing so, since they are held by the ends,.any band labels with which they may be provided are not disturbed or accidentally removed.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that modifications may be made in details ofA construction and arrangement and matters of mere form without departing from the spirit of the invention which is not limited. to such matters or otherwise than the prior art and the appended claim may require.
I claim:
A- twine cabinet including a shell having at its base a 4curved hopper provided with an upturned lip and open at the front and ends, and a flanged middle partition stoppingr short; of the hopper and dividing the shell into open top and open front upright chutes communicating with the hopper and adapted to retain a supply of balls of string and to deliver the same to the'hopper and against the lip in position to be grasped at the hollow core by human. fingers vinserted through the openings provided at the ends of the hopper and to be withdrawn through the opening provided at the front of the hopper.
FRANK HOFF MAN.
