Description

Patented Dec. 21,1875.
Fig.2 WITNESSES (Maw ER, WASHINGTON c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE s. ARCHER, OF HAVERHILL, MAssACHUsETTs, ASSIGNOR To. GEORGE W. WENTWORTH, 0F sAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED SHOULDER-BRACES AND SUSPENDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 7l,207, dated December 21, 1875; application filed November 2, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE S. ARCHER, of Haverhill, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Combined Shoulder-Brace and Suspender, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to produce a combined shoulder-brace and suspender, which shall be constructed in such a manner as to answer the purpose of either one or the other, separately, or both combined, as necessity or convenience may require and the invention consists in making the shoulder portion of the suspender and the brace in one piece, and securing the front end of the brace to the buckle on the front of the Suspender by means of a ring and hook, or equivalent device, so that the brace may be readily attached to, and detached from, the suspender while Worn, as oocasion may require, the suspender and brace being both attached to the rear strap that holds up the pantaloons or other garment behind.
Referring to the "drawings, Figure 1 represents a combined shoulder-brace and suspender embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a front view-of the same. as applied to the wearer; and Fig. 3 is a rear view of the same.
A B represent the suspender and shoulderbrace made in one piece, thepart A passing overthe shoulder, and forming part of the suspender, while the portion B passesunder the arm, and forms the brace. On one side or end of the buckle of the suspender in front is a ring, F, and on the free end of the brace B is a hook, E, which is designed to engage with the ring F, .and so as to be readily attached to, or detached from, the same. The
suspenders and brace are connected at their' junction in the rear at D with the strap 0, having thestraps c c, which hold up theipantalocus or other garment in the rear.
The application of the device will be readi- Iyseen from the draWings,Figs. 2and 3. When it is desired to use the brace the free end of the part B is brought around under the arm, and attached by means ot'the ring and hook F and E on the buckle ofthesuspenderin front. When itis desirable to free the shoulder from the brace it is only necessary to disengage the ring from the hook, and the portion B simply hangs down behind. The shoulder strap and brace, being elastic, give great ease to the wearer.
By the meth d, as above described, of attaching the brace to the buckle of the suspender, the device is made readily adjustable to any desired size of the wearer.
Instead of the hookand ring, any other simple means of attachment and detachment may be employed for connecting the end of the brace to the Suspender-buckle.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combined shoulder-brace and suspenders, composed of the straps A, A, B, B, and O, and fastenings E and F, combined and arranged substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HORACE S. ARCHER. Witnesses:
