Application filed January 13,1925. Serial No. 241,472.

Another object of the invention is to enable elements difiering in cross sectional area to be connected .together and securely held.
A further and moraspecific object of the invention is to support a canopy below and in spaced relation to the main supporting platform, of the type of-scafiold commonly known as a sidewalk bridge, so that trafiic passing under the scaffold will be protected from any siftings or drippings'from the platform.
A feature of the resent invention is the rapidity and ease with which it may be put in place or removed.
Another feature of the invention is its adaptability to adjustment which enables the canopy to be given varying degrees of pitch to meet differing conditions.
A further feature of the invention is the simplicity of structure contributing to economical manufacture and ease of application and adjustment.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangements of parts,
which will be fully set forth in the following specification, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawingin which Figure l'is a view of a sidewalk bridge,

Figure 2 is a perspective view of a clamp constructed in accordance with this invention, Figure 3 is a top plan view of the clamp,
showm the same ready to be clamped in placeone side edge with a plurality of ears 13 forming hinge barrels. The opposite side edge of the body 12 is formed with a pair of cars 14 between which is pivoted a catch bolt 15. A
semi-circular cap 16 is provided at one of its side edges with an apertured ear 17,forming a hinge barrel which mates-with the ears 13 above described. A hinge pin 18 extends through the ears 13 and 17 and thus the parts are held in co-operative relation. Extending outwardl from the free edge'of the ca 16 is a notche lug 19, between which the ho t 15 is received when the device is in use.
Formed integrall with the body 12and extending tangentially therefrom in parallel relation to the opposite side edges thereof are the clamp jaws 20 and 22 of the co-operating clamp 11.
These jaws 20 and 22 are formed at their lower edges with a bottom wall 21 which extends outwardly therefrom in a direction opposite to but in a plane with the lower edge of the body 12. Formed at the outer edge of the bottom wall 21 are the upwardly extending clamp jaws 22 which taper toward their 11 per ends and terminate in a. plane with t e upper edges of the jaws. 20. These jaws 22 are arranged adjacent opposite ends of the 3 I wall 21 and are provided near their upper ends with screw threaded openings for the reception of the clamping screws 23.
p In use the clamp 10 is placed in embracing position about a column A and secured by entering the bolt 15 into the lug 19 and tightening the nut on the bolt. .The girders or beams B and C are then seated in the clamp 11- and the clamping screws tightened so as to securely hold the irders in lace. Obviously, the entire assembling ma o accomplished in a very small space of t me and at a minimum of labor and the disassembling 1 is likewise economical. Furthermore, the parts are rigidly and firmly clamped and are not likely to become accidentally loosened or disengaged and the relocation of an assembled canopy D on the supporting columns A may be readily accomplished without requiring the dismantling of the structure.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details and con- 105 struction, combination and arrangement of one ed e, the bod arts, may be resorted to without departing rom the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is 1. A clamp including a semi-circular body, a cap of similar shape pivoted to said body at havingf lugs carrying a pivoted fastening olt, an a notched lug on the cap to receive the bolt and engage a nut thereon to hold the body and cap in clamping position, the body having a jaw attached to its central part and projecting beyond the body at both ends, with a rigid bottom on said jaw extending'laterally therefrom, and one or more jaws rigid with the bottom and parallel with said first-named jaw and carrying fastening means to grip a member between the first-named and last-named jaw.
2. A clamp including a semi-circular body and a cap of similar shape pivoted to the body at one edge, the body having at its opposite edge lugs carrying a pivoted fastenmg bolt, the. cap having a coo erating notched lug to receive the bolt an be engaged by a nut thereon to hold the body and cap in clamping position, the body having a transversej aw attached to its central part and projecting beyond the body at both ends, with a rigid bottom on said jaw extending away from the body and the jaw and a pair'of jaws rigid with said bottom at the ends of same and parallel with. the first-named jaw, and carrying fastening means to grip a member between them and the first-named jaw..
