EXTENSION CLOTHES DREER.
Application filed August 12, l1.92.7. Serial No. 212,441.v
This invention relates generally to clothes driers used for drying clothes, garments and the like. rEhe invention has for an object the provision of an improved clothes drier of simple construetionand novel arrangement of parts.
For further comprchensionl of the invention, and of thev objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of. the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the. drawings, is a side elevational view of my improved device in an extended position.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a similar view to that shown in Fig. 1, illustrating my improved device in a closed position.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary top plan view thereof, illustrating my improved device in an extended position.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary seetional view taken on theline 5 5 of Fig. 2.
Fig.'6`is an enlarged transverse sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 7 is a perspective View of my improved device, illustrating the same in an extended position.
Fig. 8 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 8 8 of Fig. 4.
As here embodied my improved device comprises a support 10, attached to a wall 11, or any suitable similar portion of a house or the like, or wherever a device of this 'nature may be used. The support 10 has attached thereto, at its lower extremity, and extended therefrom, a base 12, preferably of semi-circular shape, and provided with a raised edge 13. The support 1() is adapted to slidably support, as at 14, by grooves formed therein, a vertical member 15, and has pivotally attached thereto, as at 16, a lever 17, provided with a knob .18, and an extended element 19, adapted to engage normally any desired one of the apertures 20, by means of a tension spring 21 positioned in apertures 22 located in the vertical member 15 and in the lever 17, so as to hold the vertical member 15 in any desired relative or extended position. v
The telescopic tubular members 24, are slidably mounted in brackets 25, pivotally att-ached, as at 26, to a rod 27 or the like, bent or formed of semi-circular shape, and attached at its extremities, as at 28. and 29, at or near the upper Vextremity ofthe vertical member 15. The locking member 30, of semi-circular shape is attached to the vertical member 15, and is positionedinside the sain rod 27, and has attached thereto, at its periphery, and extended downward there` from, an engaging. member 31, and the lock ing member 30 has formed or cut therein, notches 32.` The notches 32 are adapted to receive the enlarged extremities 33 of the innermost'telescopic tubular members 24, the engaging member 31 is adapted to engage the enlarged extremities 33 of the innermost telescopic tubular'members 24, so as to securely hold the telescopic tubular members 24 in an extended position, in (1o-operation with the support 34 of semtcircular ring shape, attached to the `vertical member 15', positioned slightly below and outside the rod 27. It being understood that the innermost telescopic members will rest or lay upon the upper surface of the support 34, when in an extended position, and that the said telescopic tubular members when extended, as above described, may be relatively extended, so as to form` a means of `support for the clothes, garments or the like to be dried.
The holder 35, of semi-circular shape, is attached to the vertical member 15, at or near its lower extremity, and has formed or cut therein, a plurality of apertures 36, and is provided with a raised edge 37, the
pivoted member 38, is pivoted, as at 39, tov
the holder 35, and is positioned directly below the holder 35, and is provided with a knob 38 as a means of pivoting the pivoted member 38, and has formed or cut therein, a plurality of apertures 40, adapted to register with the rsaid. apertures 36 of the holder 35, so as to permit the telescopic tubular members to be extended through the apertures 36 and 40, so as to be supported, at their lower extremities, when in a closed position, by the base l2, as clearly shown by the dot and dash lines 41. The rods 24 may then be removed from the brackets 25 by sliding the member 15 upwards to its highest adjusted position. Then the rods may be lifted from the shelf 12 for cleaning, repairing or replacing purposes. The lower extremities of the telescopic tubular 'members 24, except one of these members adjacent the board 15, are supported by the member 38, when the said apertures 36 and Cil .40 are not in a registered position, as clearly one member 9A notsupportediby the inem` ber 38 rests upon the shelf l2.
lfd/*bile l have above described the preferred forni, construction and arrangement of the several elements employed, it will be understood that the device is, nevertheless, susceptible of considerable modification therein, and l therefore reserve the privilege of resorting` to all such changes as may be fairly embodied Within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Havin thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United StatesA is as follows:
l. A clothes drier comprising a support,
va shelf attached to the' bottom thereof, a
vertical member slidably arranged on the support, holder provided with a plurality of apertures attached to the bottom` ofthe vertical member, a flat memberA formed with a plurality of apertures registering With some of the apertures of the holder, the 'flat member being pivotally mounted on the holder and movable to disalign the registered apertures, a knob attached tothe flat member, and a plurality of clothes support rods slidably arranged in pivot-able brackets attached on the `vertical member and movable therewith so that Vthe rods may be placed in substantially vertical positions and extended through the said registered apertures and rest upon the said shelf, the
rods being mounted in the brackets loosely` support, a holder provided with a plurality of apertures attached to the bottom ofthe vertical member, a flat member formed With a plurality of apertures registering with some of the apertures of the holder, the flatV member being pivotally mounted on the holder and movable to disalign the registered apertures, and a plurality of clothes support rods slidably arranged in pivotable brackets attached on the vertical member and movable therewith so tliatltherods may be placed in substantially Vertical positions and extend through 'the said registered apertures and iest upon the said shelf, the rods being mounted in the bracketsl loosely enough to permitV their disengagement when the vert-ical member is sutliciently elevated.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
