C. PFNSTIEHL SUPPORT FOR VARIABLE CONDENSERS Filed July 2G, 1925 Patented Feb. 5, 1929.
UNITED STATES y 1,701,244 PATENT OFFICE.
CARL PFANSTIEHL, OF HIGHLAND PARK, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR., BY MESNE ASSIGN- MENTS, T0 NATIONAL ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS COMPANY, OF WAUKEGAN, ILLI- NOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
SUPPORT FOR VARIABLE CONDENSERS.
Application tiled July 20, 1925. Serial No. 44,803.
This invention relates to a support for variable condensers and the like and is particularly adapted to' be used for supporting frames in which are held a plurality of variable condensers.
An object of the invention is to provide a means for supporting variable condensers which will relieve them of undue torsional strains, thereby rendering them more uniform in their action.
This and other objects as will hereinafter appear are accomplished by this invention which is fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation viewed on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2 of a frame carrying a plurality of condensers; and
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of this frame and the front panel supporting the same.
The embodiment illustrated comprises a frame 10 carrying a plurality of sets of stator plates 11 upon pins 12 which are insulated from the frame 10 by means of porcelain caps 13 or the like.
An equal number of sets of rotor plates 14 work with these stator plates and are carried on shafts 15. These shafts carry bell cranks 16 which are connected by means of side rods 17 and 1S so that all rotors turn through substantially the same angle. Thus by accurately forming and setting the various stator and rotor plates all sets of condensers have substantially the same settings.
It is very essential however that no warping or twisting of the frame 10 shall occur, otherwise the nice balance between the several sets will be destroyed. To relieve the traine 10 from any undue outside Strain, I have provi-ded a suspension consisting of two screws 19 and 2O at thc end of thc frame whereby it is connected to the panel 21. Near the opposite end of the frame 10 a bracket 22 is secured to the frame by means of a screw 23 and carries a pin 24 which extends longitudinally of the frame and preferably substiant-ially at right angles to the screws 19 and 20. A supporting member 25 is secured to the back of the panel 21 by means of screws 26 and has an opening through which the pin 24 has a sliding fit.
To assemble this construction, the memoer 25 is secured to the back of the panel 21 after which the frame 10 is brought up to the back of the panel and the pin 24 inserted in the opening in the member 25. The frame 10 is then moved along the back of the panel until the screws 19 and 20 can be inserted.
Thus it will be seen that a convenient means is provided for relieving the frame 10 of any undue strains which might tend to warp or twist the condensers which it carries and to change their electrical characteristics.
Thus each individual condenser consists of a series of sets ot fixed and movable plates 11 and 14 and all are simultaneously varied by a single control as the 4dial 27 which acts on the shaft of the central condenser.
`While I have shown and described but. a single embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that it is capable ofv many modifications. Changes therefore in the construction and arrangement may be made which do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims.
I claim: f
1. In combination, a piece of radio apparatus, having a frame, and means for supporting saidframe at three points, one of said points being pivotal and extending substantially at right angles to the other two.
2. In radio apparatus, a condenser having a frame, a bracket having an opening and adapted to be secured to a panel, a pin on said frame adapted to be moved endwise into said opening, and additional means remote from said pin for securing said frame to said panel.
3. In radio apparatus, a condenser having a frame, a bracket having an opening and adapted t-o be secured to a panel, a pin near one end of said frame and extending lono'itudinally of the trame and adapted to e moved endwise into said opening, and threaded openings in the opposite end oit' said frame adapted to receive screws passing through said panel and having their axes lying transversely to said frame.
4. In radio apparatus, a variable condenser having a frame, a plurality of series of relatively movable plates carried by said frame, and means for supporting said frame at three points, one of said poi-nts being pivotal so as to prevent any warping strain being transmitted from the support to the frame.
5. In radio apparatus, a variable condenser having a frame, a plurality of series of rela- A humm 4 a tively movable plates carried by said frame, and means for supporting said trarne at three points, one of said points being pivotal and extendingr substantially at right angles to the other two.
6. In radio apparatus, a condenser having a frame, a plurality of series of relatively movable plates carried by said frame, a bracket having an opening and adapted to be seem-ed to a panel` a pin on said frame adapted to be moved endwise into said opening, and additional means remote from said pin for securing said frame to said panel.
7. In combination, a piece of radio apparatus, having a frame, a bracket having an opening and adapted to be secured to a panel,
a pin near one end of said frame and extending toward the nearer end and adapted to be moved endwise into said opening, and threaded openings in the opposite end of said frame adapted to receive screws passing through said panel.
8. In radio apparatus, a frame, two spaced supports adapted for attachment to a panel and a third support remote from the other two and adapted to permit of pivotal Inovenient so as to permit said frame to adapt itself to the. position forced upon it by the first mentioned supports. v
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set hand this 11th day of July, 1925.
CARL PFANSTIEHL.
