Description

Jan. 22, 1929. 1,700,065
- c. MARCH cuP' Filed June 23, 1926 Patented Jan. 22, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Application filed June 23,
This invention relates to sanitary drinking cups and has for an object the provision of a cup made of foldable water proof material, which will include in addition to the cup, a protecting casing or container for said cup, the construction permitting of both the cup and container being compactly folded so as to be conveniently carried.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a combined cup and container there for, which is simple in construction and may be manufactured at small cost.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:-
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the invention showing the same in folded or collapsed condition.
Figure 2 shows the cup container or casing unfolded.
Figure 3 is a perspective View taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention as shown comprises a cup container or casing which includes a back panel 10 and a front panel 11, the said panels being joined at a fold line 12, so that the panels may be folded one upon the other. The panels are preferably notched and rounded at each end of the fold line as indicated at 13 so as to provide rounded corners at one end of the container. One of the panels, preferably the back panel 10, carries a cover flap 14 which is adapted to be folded over the free edge of the front panel 11 and secured in folded or closed condition as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. Various fastening devices may be employed for holding the cover fiap closed, the means shown consisting of buttons 15 around which is wrapped a flexible element or cord 16.
The cup which may be formed of any suitable foldable water proof material comprises an outer wall 17 which is joined to an inner wall 18 by foldable or pleated end walls 19, so that the cup may be compactly folded 1926. Serial No. 118,037.
against the panel 10, or opened as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. obvious that the foldable side walls 19 may be secured directly to the panel 10 and the latter serve as the rear wall of the cup. The front wall'17 of the cup is centrally and longitudinally creased as shown at 20 so that by pressing upon the foldable end walls 19, the front wall 17 may be extended and the cup opened with the upper end of the creased portion 20 forming a discharge lip 21.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description and accompanying drawings that the invention provides an exceedingly simple and efficient cup which may be folded into compact shape with the container or housing protecting the cup so as to keep the latter in a sanitary condition. The container may be readily bent and the cup unfolded to provide a convenient drinking cup.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. In combination, a holder including a rear panel and a front panel connected to one edge of the rear panel and foldable thereon, a cup comprising fiat front and rear walls connected at their lower edges and collapsible side wallsconnecting the side edges of the front and rear walls, with the rear fiat wall of the cup secured to the rear panel of the holder.
2. In combination, a holder including a rear panel and a front panel connected to one edge of the rear panel and foldable thereon, a cup comprising fiat front and rear walls connected at their lower edges and collapsible side walls connecting the side edges of the front and rear walls, with the rear flat wall of the cup secured to the rear panel of the holder, and a crease extending longitudinally of the front wall of the cup and hearing against the front panel of the holder when the latter is folded and providing a discharge lip when the cup is in use.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
CARL MARCH.
