UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ADAM GRANER, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOTIVE POWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,909, dated July 18, 1876; application filed May 27, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM GRANER, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Motive Power, of which the following is a specification:
The invention consists in combining a driveshat't, counter-shaft, and saw-shaft, the latter provided with a roll arranged thereunder, as hereinafter described.
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved machine with one of the shafts in section, and Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the driving-shaft, and B the crank for turning it by hand, to the handle of which a connecting-rod, Q, is attached, which, at the lower end, connects with a foot-treadle, D, so that the operator may work with both. I also propose to apply these drivers to both ends of the driving-shaft in practice.
E represents the friction-rollers on which the driving-shaft revolves; F, similar rollers for the counter-shaft G; and H, a roller 10- cated under the said shaft, in such manner that. it takes the pulley of the belt J, which drives the saw, in such manner as to materially lessen the friction.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the drive-shaft, countershat't, and saw-shaft with a roll, H, arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
ADAM GRANER.
