The main object of this invention is to provide a latch having few parts'which are economical to produce and assemble.
A further object is to provide a latch which 5 is compact in structure' and, although made of light material, is strong and durable.

A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is an inverted view of my improved latch, the bolt being shown in retracted position by dotted lines and the handle or actuating lever being partially broken away.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view mainly in longitudinal section of my improved latch mounted upon a door.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary inverted view showing the bolt in retracted position.

Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of the bolt actuating spring.
In the embodiment illustrated the latch housing 1 formed as a sheet metal stamping is provided with an opening 2 in its front wall 3 and an opening 4 in its rear wall 5. These openings are disposed in opposed relation.v A pivot supporting flange 6 projects inwardly from the upper edge of the opening 4, this flange being formed of the portions struck out of the wall to form the opening.
The bolt 7 is slidably mounted in these openings 2 and 4 with its front end projecting to engage a keeper as 8 which is shown in Fig. 2 and is mounted upon the casing 9. The latch is mounted on the door 10.
The actuating lever 11 is provided with a hand piece 12 and is arranged through the rear opening 4 in superimposed or overlapping relation to the bolt. This lever is provided with a pivoted stud 13 engaging a pivot opening 14 in the flange 6, thereby pivotally supporting the lever. The lever is also pro- 19'29. serial No. 377,989.

The cam member 16 is arranged'with its apex rearwardly so that asthe lever is oscillated or swung from its normal central position, the lug riding upon one or the other of ,the camv faces retracts the bolt. This openin 22 is centrally disposed .relative to the longitudinal center of the le- .ver so that as the lever is rocked from its central or normal position, the thrust on the bolt yis through one or the other of the arms 23 of the offset or loop, and is thereby thrown 'off 'the center of the Vlever so that the spring acts to return the lever to its central or initial position, as well as to project the bolt as soon as permitted by the return of the lever to its central position. y

In a latch, the combination of a housing fprovided withopposed openings in its front and rear walls, the opening inthe rear wall having an inturned pivot supporting flange at its outer edge, a bolt slidably mounted'in said openings and provided with a `triangular cam opening disposed with its apex rear- Wardly and having` a central notch in` its hold said lever in its initial position and to` project said bolt.

In a latch, the combinationr of a housing provided with opposed openings in its iront and rear walls, a bolt slidably mounted in said openings and provided With a tri-angular cam opening disposed With its apex rear- Wardly and having a central'notch in its front edge, a pivoted actuating lever disposed through the opening in the rear Wall of the housing in overlapping relation to said bolt and provided with a stud engaging said Ycam openinginsaid bolt, said lever having a centrally disposed transverse. slot, and an S- With said lever and acting to normally hold said lever in a central position and to project said bolt.
6. In a latch, the combination of a housing, a bolt slidably mounted in said housing and provided with a V-shaped cam disposed with its apex rearwardly, an actuating lever pivotally mounted in said housing and provided with a lug .engaging said cam, and spring means acting to project said bolt and hold said lever in central position.
7.
