Thepresent invention relates to improveframe 3, suitable stops 4being-provided in-the ments 1n door seals, and its principal object is conventional manner against which the door to provide a seal for the bottom of a door for rests when held in'closed position. "The door preventlng draft from passing through the may swing from the full lineposition shown p ning below the door. in Figure 2' into the dotted-line position 55 In building construction as practiced at the shown "in dottedlinesinithe same figure; present time, itis customary to leave consid- My invention more'particularly comprises erable space between the bottom of the door asealing strip 5 of suitable widthand thick; and the fioorso as to allow the door to clear a ness and of a length corresponding substanrug or carpet lying in the adjacent room when tiallytOthe widthofthe door op ening-ais de- 60 the door is opened. fined by the two stops 4. It should be understood that the springs 8 may be made in many different forms as long as they perform the essential function of moving the strip inwardly when the door is opened and of at the same time raising the strip into inactive position while allowing the strip toreturn to an active position under the impact of the closing door.
It should be further understood that while in the drawing my sealing strip is shown as applied to the face of the door, it might as well be accommodated in a slot in the bottom of the door if it is desired to conceal the working mechanism. N
I claim: I
1. In combination, a swingable supporting member, a sealing strip and spring means holding the. strip to the member with freedom of swinging motion. between sealing and nonsealing positions, the said spring means being made to also urge the sealing strip toward the face of the member.
2. In combination, a swingable supporting member, a sealing strip and spring means, holding the strip to the member with freedom of swinging motionbetween sealing and nonsealing positions, the spring means bearing on the face of the strip for urging the strip toward the supporting member.
3. In combination, a door, a sealing strip and spring means holding the'strip to the door with freedom of swinging motion between sealing and non-sealing positions, the said spring means being made to urge the sealing strip toward the face of the door.
4:. In combination, a swingable supporting member, a sealing strip and spring means holding the strip to the member with freedom of swinging motion between sealing and non-sea1ing positions, the spring means comprising a spring wire having a vertical section adapted for fastening to the supporting member, an intermediate section extending from the upper end of the vertical section in a downwardly slanting direction over the sealing strip and a horizontal end section adapted to be received in a socket in the strip.
'5'. In combination, a swingable supporting member, a sealing strip and spring means holding the strip to the member with freedom of swinging motion between sealing and non-sealing positions, the spring means comprising a spring' wire having a vertical section adapted for fastening to the supporting member, an intermediate section extending from the upper endof the vertical'section in a downwardly slantingdirection over the sealing strip anda horizontal end section adapted to be received in a socket in the strip, the vertical section terminating in a transverse finger having means for holding the same to the face of the supporting member.
6. A wire spring of the character described comprising a vertical section having a horizontal finger at its lower end, an intermediate section extending from the upper end of the vertical section in a downwardly slanting position, and a horizontal end section running at right angles to the finger.
