Description

Mar'ch 17, 1931.
J. CHORAN AMUSEMENT TOY Filed Sept. 19, 1930 H25 ATTORNEY- Patented Mar. 17, 1931 UNITE-D rSTATES 'Jon CHORAN, or KENOSHA, WISCONSIN AMUSEMENT yTOY zrl`his invention relates to certain novel improvements in amusement toys7 andhas Afor itsprincipal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly eiicientn use and economical in manufacture. Y
The salient object of this'invention is the :provision of a novel and highly entertaining toy in which a plurality of. mounted chai'- actcrs, such, for example, as characters adapted to resemble Indians on horseback, lare caused to be rotated about a house in which is provided a mechanism adapted to simulate the shooting of a rifle at intermittent intervals so that as the characters revolve about the-house the rifle is discharged and thc appearance of an Indian attack created.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of part-s to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by referenceV to the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan View depicting a preferred form of construction of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional Vview substantially on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view taken substantially on the line 3-3 in Fig. 1, of
a preferred form of construction of a house embodied in the invention; v
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4 4 in Fig. 1; Y
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken substantially o nthe line 5 5 in Fig. 2; and
Fig. 6 is a detail view of a preferred form of mounting the characters embodied in the invention.
VReferring to the drawing wherein the .preferred embodiments of my novel toy -are illustrated, indicated at 10 is a base around which is a frame 11 secured thereto by .means of suitable .connecting elements 12. recess 13 is provided in the base 10 and mounted in this recess isa block 14. Mounted on the block V14 by means of a boltk and nut struc ture 15 is a. hollow standard 16 which in-V cludesa hanged portion 17. Secured to the cludes a depending annular Hange 19.
flanged portion 1f? in any suitable manner such as by soldering is a disc 18 which in- A ball race structure 20 is mounted in the flanged port1on17 of the standard 16. Ro- 55 tatably mounted in the'fra'mle 11 is a shaft 21 and integral with' this shaftportion A21 is a lportion providing a Vhandle 22. Mounted on the inner end portion of the shaft`21 so as to be rotatable therewith is a wheel 23 6o which frictionally engagesthe flange 19. It is apparent, therefore, that by rotating the handle 21 the wheel 23 will engage the flange 19 and rotate the disc 18 on the ball race 20.
In theupper end portion of the standard 16 a hanged portion 24 is provided and mounted in this flange'portion 24 is a ball race structure l25. The bolt 15 projects upwardly through the ball race 24. The upper lenol portion of the bolt 15 projects upwardly through a bracket 26 in which is provided a flange portion 27 and a suitable nut 28 secures the bracket 26 to the bolt-15.
The flange portion 27 is secured by means of suitable connecting elements 29 to a plate 30 which is secured to the frame 11Vby means of screws or the like 31. An annular slot 32 is provided in the plate 31. Mounted at spaced apart intervals to the disc 18 are the angularly formed end portions 33 of uprights 34, the end portions 33 being secured to the plate 30 in any suitable manner such as-by soldering. The uprights 34 travel in the slot 32 and each of these uprights 34 carries a figure 35 which in the present instance resembles a horse on which is mounted an Indian rider 36.
Ears 37 are provided on the flange portion 24 of the standard 16. Ahousing 38 of any suitable design and construction is mounted on the plate 30 and provided in this housing is a window 39. Secured to one side wall of the housing 38 by means of connectingv elements 41 is a bracket 40 which includes an inwardly extending portion 42. A. body 44 resembling a gun is pivotally mounted in the portion 42 of the bracket`40 by means of a suitable securing element 43. The gun 44 includes a portion 45 which'projects through Cil cludes an inwardly extending portion 46 which is adapted to have abutting engagement with the ears 37 as the handle 21 is rotated which manifestly causes the hub 16 and the disc 18 to rotate, and it will be seen that the rotation of the disc 18 rotates the characters 35, the uprights 34 traveling through the slot 32. The rotation of the hub 16 causes the ear portions 37 to abut the portion 4G of the gun 44 and thus the gun 44 intermittently moved through the window in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 5 thus simulating the action of a person in the house 38 shooting at the mounted characters 36 as the characters 36 travel about the house 38. In this manner my novel toy simulates an Indian attack.
The ear portions 37 are preferably spaced apart at angular radial intervals corresponding to the angular intervals between the uprights 34 and supported characters so that as each time the memberV 44 is actuated one of the uprights 34 and supported charactei's will be in radial alignment therewith.
One end portion of a coil spring 48 is attached to the inner end portion 4G of the gun 44 and the other end portion of this spring 48 is secured to a hoolr element 49 which is attached to the wall of the housing 38. A s the gun 44 is moved into the dotted line position of Fig. 5 the abutting ear 37 moves by the gun portion 46 and the gun is retracted into the solid line position of Fig. 5 by the spring 48. v
From the foregoing description or my invention is it manifest that I have provided a novel toy which while being 'simple and economical in construction will be highly amusing and entertaining. y
lVhile I have illustrated 'and described the preferred form of construction for carrying` my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and n'ioditication, without departing from the spirit of the invention. l, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of lsuch variations and modiications as come within the scope of the appended claims. n
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

2. An amusement toy comprising a supporting base, a hub mounted for rotatable movement in said base, a. disc carried by said hub and rotatable therewith above said base, a marginal frame around said base and secured thereto, a plate member carried by said frame, said plate member having an annular slot therein, a plurality of upright members carried by said disc and adapted to travel in said slot, characters carried by said upright members, a housing mounted on said plate member, said hub including a portion projecting into said housing, ear portions extending radially at spaced apart intervals from said last mentioned portion, said housing having a window formed therein, a member pivotally mounted in said housing, including a portion projecting through said window, and including a portion adapted to have abutting engagement with said ear portions, supporting means for said pivotally mounted member, means for rotating said disc and said hub whereby said ear portions will intermittently engage said pivotally mounted member to move said member through said window to simulate shooting at said characters, and a spring member for reti'acting` said pivotally mounted member into normal position in said window.
3. An amusement toy comprising a supporting base, a hub mounted for rotatable movement in said base, a disc cari'ied by said hub and rotatable therewith above said base,
a marginal frame around said base and secured thereto, a plate member carried by said frame, said plate member having an annular slot therein, a plurality of upright members carried by said disc spaced at radial angular intervals, and adapted to travel in said slot, characters carried by said upright members, a housing` mounted on said plate'member, said hub including a portion projecting into said housing, ear portions extending radially at spaced apart intervals from said last mentioned portion, said last mentioned intervals corresponding to the angular intervals between said upright members and supported characters, said housing having a window vformed therein, a member pivotally mounted in said housing, including a portion projecting` through said Window, and inoluding a portion adapted to have abutting engagement with said ear portions, support-y ture.
