The invention 4may be contained in structures that vary in their details and, to illustrate a practical application ofthe invention, I have selected a window equipment means containing the invention as an eX- ample 'of the various kembodiments of my in-l vention. and shall describe it hereinafter. The structure selected is shown'in the accompanying drawing.

The lframe l is Vprovided with the usual sashes 2 and 3 that are separated from each other and guided by the usual strips 4 in the manner well known in the art. rlhe sashes are each provided with a pair of latches 7, and the window frame is provided with a plurality of strips 8, preferably of metal. The strips 8 are located in the channels formed between the guiding strips of the frame. A strip 8 is associated with each latch 7 and is provided with recesses 9 that are adapted to receive the inner end of the latch 7 at different points of location of the sashes.

In additionA to thel operation of the latches to press the sashes outwardly and tightly against the guiding frame, the sashes are also o provided with the spring-pressed rollers 25 t which are supported in the'slidable frames 26 for rotative movements relative to the frames 26. The frames 26 are slidably supported in the shells 27 and the vframes 26 are spring pressed by means of the springs 28 Ilocated between the sides 29 and 30 off each frame 26 and its associatedkshell 27.v rThe frames 26 are also held 'from outward movement beyond a given lpoint yby the screws 32 located in slots 33 formed in the side wallsoic the frames 26. .are mortised in the edges of the sashes and are secured by means 0i the screws 3l. The rollers 25 roll'on the surface 35 ofthe strip Slocated at a right angleto the side of the strip having tlierecesses 9. The roller is located on the inside of the sash with which it isassociated and so as to press the sash outward tightly against the outer guidingy The shells 27 A strip of the frame and in the same direction that the curved surface 12 of the end of the l latch operates to press the sash. Thus, in the Jform of construction shown, the roller and the latch are preferably spaced apart, whereby the sash will be tightly pressed against the outer strip and prevent Weather from aiecting the interior of the building. Any number'ot rollers may be located on each side of a sash.V The number used will depend on the height of the sash.
The sashes may be provided with lifting members. 'Ihe lifting member is particularly advantageous when secured to the upper sash Whose lower edge, when the window is closed, is located on the outside of the upper edge of the lower sash. It has a iinger member 40 that curves rearwardly from the body portion 4l of the lifting member substantially as shown in Figs. 8 and 9.V The member a2 may be secured by means ot screws that pass through the openings 43 formed in the body member 4l of the lifting member 42. In raising the sashes the .thumb may be conveniently inserted beneath the curved finger member 40.` To lower the window it may be pushed down by pressure on the upper side of the curved portion 4l() of the lifting member. In a window equipment, a-spring pressed latch having a sloping surface, the latch slidably supported in the sash, theframe of the Window having a plurality ci notches'adapted to be engaged by the latch, the sloping surface adapted to engage one edge of the notch to press the sash outward against the guiding strip ,on the frame of the window, a
shell for containing the latch, the latch having a slot, a pin supportedin the shell and extending through the slot, a spring located intermediate the pin and the end of the'slot :torpressing the latch outward and towards the frame oi the window, the latch comprising a bar entirely located Within the thickness of the sash and having an eye located in a portion protruding inwardly from the sash :trame for operating the latch, and a roller located in a position spaced from the latch and in the sash, a frame for rotatably supporting the roller, a shell for slidably supporting the frame, a spring located intermediate opposing sides of the shell and frame for pressing the roller outward with respect to the sash and inward with respect to the building in which thefrarne is located, the
kroller located near another corner of the sash and on the same side of the sash that the said latch is located on.
