IMPROVEMENT IN CAR-MOVERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN WV. RAYNOR, of Moberl y, in the county of Randolph and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Oar-Mover, of which the following is a specification:

1n the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view, Fig. 2 a side view, and Fig. 3 a bottom View, of my improved carmover.

My invention relates to an improved device for readily moving cars froni the main to the side track, or out of the way; and it consists of a block with curved front jaw that takes hold of the outer concave part of the wheel, a pivot dog and block being on the tread of the wheel, and an adjustable gage-piece hearing on the flange of the wheel.

In the drawing, A represents a block of cast or malleable iron, to which a handle, B, of hard wood, gas-pipe, or other material is securely socketed. The block A is provided with a forwardextending jaw, O, that is curved inwardly at the end and intended to bear on the concave outer part of the wheel. A latch or dog, D, is pivoted to top lugs or ears of block A, and hears, by its slightly-inclined face, on the tread of the wheel when the handle is pulled in upward direction, so as to take firmly hold of the wheel, and move the car in forward direction. Below the dog D is arranged a solid projecting block, D, that may be used in place of the dog, binding, by wedge action, on the tread of the wheel for turning the same. A'projecting gagepiece, E, at the end of the block, opposite to jaw B, is hinged at its rear end to an extension, E, of block A, and may be adjusted by the screw-nut F on the lateral connecting-bolt F to fit to the flanges of wheels with different widths of tread. By reversing the implement'and applying it to the opposite wheel, sothat the jaw, block, and gage bear on the Wheel in the same manner as before, and then bearing down on the lever handle the wheel is turned, and the car moved in backward direction toward the operator. The pivoted dog swings in this position out of the way. The implement is strong, compact, and durable, and admits the ready moving of cars on the tracks.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A car-moving implement, made of a solid block, A, with forward extending and curved sidejaw 13, front block D, adjustable flange, binding-gage E, andleVer-handIe B, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
