This invention relates to trucks for railway rollingstock and particularly to, such trucks which may be readily taken down or disassembled to facilitate the ,repairV or replacement ofv theY parts.
The principal'objectvof my invention, generally considered, is to provide trucksv for.
railway rolling stockin which the holsters are preferably `formed with only inner vguide lugs, thereby facilitating assembly and'disconnectionwith respect tothe associated side frames while still assembled with the associated spring plank and ,bolsterX springs, the brake hangers being supportedl onv transverse rods fitting in registering apertures or pockets withthe quick removal ofthe frames.'V

If an ordinary side frame is used with the usual lugs, the spring plank, of course, will be formed with corresponding apertures interlocking with said lugs, so that in any event, the spring plank preferably serves to hold the frames in proper relation with respect to one another, but is readily disconnected therefrom by either raising the spring plank or dropping the frames with respect thereto.
lSupported on the spring plank 7, with or without the usual spring plates, are bolster springs t), said springs being preferably standard Gf springs and the number of said springs corresponding with the'capacity of the truck. Supported by means of said springs 9, with or without the usual top spring plates, is a bolster 1() which is preferably formed with inner guide lugs 11 only, the usual outer guide lugs being omitted to facilitate assembly and removal of the side frames with respect to the other portions of the bolster.
Extending between the side frames are means for supporting the brake hangers 1&2?, said means preferably comprising a pair of rods or barsl?) with their ends litting into registering apertures 14 in the side frames 1 and held against undesired lateral movement after the frames are assembled by engagement of the ends thereof with some portion of the frame, for example, the outer flanges 15 of the bolster guide columns 4.-. In order to increase the supporting area for the ends of the rods 13 inwardly extending bosses 16 are provided in which the apertures 14- are formed. The brake hangers 12 may be of generally normal construction with eyes 17 at their upper ends through which are threaded the supporting rods-13. Outward movement of the hangers 13 is prevented by the bosses 16, and inward movement may be prevented by collars or washers 18 on the rods,`said washers, if used, being held in position in any desired manner as by means of cotters or keys 19.
Referring now to the embodiment of my invention illustrated in Figure ll, a construction is there disclosed involving a side frame la, a bolster a, and other associated parts identical with that'of the previous embodiment, except that the outer flanges a of the bolster guide columns la are perforated to correspond with the apertures 14a, and the brake hanger supporting rods 13 are extended through said perforations 2O and locked in place outside of the frames asby means of washers 21 and fiat split keys or cotters 22. Suchconstruction actslto supplement the effect of the spring plank in locking the frames in proper position with respect to one another, although it slightly complicates the connection between the frames and lslightly increases the time of assembly or taking down the parts of the truck.
From the foregoing disclosure, it will be apparent that I have devised a quick take down truck in which the side frames may b quickly removed by merely dropping or otherwise disconnecting the wheels and axles therefrom, lowering the frames r tive to he spring plank to disconnect then "r lin said spring plank and moving said Yframes laterally outward to withdraw them from the ends of the bolster, spring plank, and brake hansupporting means without the necessity of disarranging the assembly of the spring plank, bolster, and bolster springs, and without any complicated operations in disconnecting the frames from the associated brake rigging. ls/lodiiications may be made within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having now described my invention, I claim:
1. A. truck for railway rolling stock comprising a pair of side frames, a spring plank supported thereon and extending therebetween, bolster springs supported by said spring plank, a bolster supported by said springs, rods extending from side frame to side frame and supported at their ends thereby, and brake hangers supported on said rods.
2. A truck for railway rolling stock com-A prising a pair of side frames, a spring plank extending therebetween and interlocked at its ends with said frames, bolster springs supported by said spring plank, a bolster supported by said springs and formed with inner guide lugs only engaging the bolster guide colums of the frames, and brake hanger supporting rods extending between the side frames with their ends fitting in pockets therein, whereby the side frames may be removed upon disconnecting the spring plank therefrom.
3. A truck for railway rolling stock comprising a pair of side frames, a spring plank supported thereon with its ends interlocked with said frame, bolster springs supported by the ends of said spring plank, a bolster supported by said springs and formed without the usual outer guide lugs, and means for supporting associated brake hangers extending between the side frames with the ends freely litting in corresponding pockets in said frames, whereby neither the bolster nor the brake hanger supporting means interfere with the free and quick removal of the side frames from the truck.
4. A truck for railway rolling stock comprising a pair of side frames, a spring plank supported thereon and extending therebetween, a nest of springs supported on each end of said spring plank, a bolster supported at its ends on said nests of springs, said bolster being freely insertable and removable with respect to the frames, rods extending-.between said iframes and fitting in registering apertures therein, means for maintaining 1 said rods in 1 position with ree spect to said frames, and brake hangers supported on said rods.V v 5.V In a truck, in combination with the sideV frames thereof, unitary means Vfor sup-r porting a pair of .brake hangers'from said frames comprising a rod extending trans-V versely of the truck. In a' truck, in combination, a pair o side-frames, brake hanger supporting rods extending from one frame to the other and freely fitting in registering apertures theres in, and means for maintaining said rods in position while not preventing the quick removal of said vframes from the truck.
7. A -quick take down truck com rising a pair of side frames, a spring plan ,bolster springs, a supported bolster without outer guide lugs, and brake hanger supporting means extending between said frames and freely iitting therein, whereby said truck may be taken down upon a disconnection of- .the spring plank from the side frames without disturbing the relation between the bol-` ster, springv plank and springs upon Vmoving said frames laterally to release them from the brake hanger supporting means. 8. In a truck, in combination, brake hangers, and rods supporting said hangers .extending between the side frames and releasahle therefrom upon outward lateral motionof said frames. Y
9. Thermethod oftaking down a truck comprising dropping the wheels, lowering the frames to disengage the springl plank therefrom, and moving the side frames laterally to release them from brake hanger supporting rods. Y Y
