Description

H. [SKINv Jan, 6, 1931;
PLAY SUIT Filed July 10, 1928 ENTOR m Herman Patented lan. 6, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT o FicB HERMAN ISIK IN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA PLAY sin-r Application filed July 10, 192 ser l no. 291,679. I
This invention relates to clothing, and its chief object is to provide a cow-boy playsuit in which both the trousers and the chaps, usually separately included in such an outw fit, will be constituted by a single unitary garof the chaps, but which will engage with the I drop seat and fasten thereover only'in the back; thereby permitting, among other ad.- vantages, a full back-opening by a simple, quick manipulation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cowboy-suit of this nature which Will have but one, simple, unitary device for holding up both the chaps and the trousers part of the garment, and the drop-seat part as Well.
I A particular object of the invention is to provide a chaps and trousers outfit which can be made with no more stitching and requiring but little more cloth than ordinary overall trousers, to thereby lower considerably the price of play suits.
My improved garment is shown in the accompanying drawings, and will be described in detail hereinafter, but is limited in its em bodiments only by the scope of the subjoined claim. I
In these drawings:
Fig. l is a front View of the garment, un-- 7 to the garment only at that point, and in ad dition to holding up the garment, forms a fastened 40 Fig. 2 is a rear View thereof;
Fig. 3 is a rear View, showing the drop seat down and the suspending or holding means unfastened, and
F ig. 4c is a detail of the suspending or hold- 46 ing means with the seat up.
Referring now more in detail to the invention by means of the drawings, the garment comprises a strip or piece 1 made to cover the front of the legs, extending partway into 50 the crotch, and all the Way up-to the waist in the front only, and made of any suitable wear-resisting "material which resembles leather, animal skins, or the like, such as processed plush." Flaps 1 are formed'byattaching a stiff strip of imitation leather, oil cloth or the like, to further enhance the chapslike appearance of the garment by providing a semblance of the leg-guards' of'regular h I r" w The entire back of the legs and the'seat is preferably formed of a singlela'r'ge piece of khaki cloth, orth e like, 2 extending from Waist to the cuff ofthe garment, and forming a seat integral with the backof the legs.
' The garment, though unitary in its nature, and having a complete,- full backthus, nevertheless presents the appearance of a regular service outfit consistin'gof separate leather or fur chaps worn in the regular manner over cloth trousers. i I
The back of the'garm'ent is made separate from the front, at thesides, ,downlto the points 10, as shown, and this separate portion is formed into a fullback drop seat 11. I
-The-presence of this formation, however, 7 is discernible only bythe gaps'in the sides where the back joins the front, and these gaps may be kept closed by suitable snap-fasteners or the like, 14. The chaps effect is not impaired or interfered with in any way by this construction and arrangement of the drop seat, and the drop seat can be manipulated easily and quickly to give a full rear opening. c
To hold up the garment, and to complete the similitude of chaps over trousers, a strap of leather or the like, 5, is formed in the front of the waist of the garment and is attached reinforcement for the front upper edge of the garment.
' This member is formed at one side into a tongue-extension .6, of a considerable length, and having a buckle 7 or the like fastened on its end. This extension is made long enough to reach around at least to the middle of the back. The other side of the strip 5 is extended in the opposite direction a length 8 sufiicient to at least reach the part 6, and this extension 8 has suitable buckle holes 9 or the like therein to engage with the buckle on the other extension.
The drop-seat 11, at its upper edge, in the Waist, has belt-loops or keepers 13 formed thereon, and the drop-seat is held up by passing therstrap filsthrough itsiloops13,.passing 3 ner as to permit of a full rear opening,--butf at the same time to holdrup thewentire.gar, v15
the strapx8cthrouglritsloopsily and buckling the two extensions 6 and 8 of the front-attached belt together in the back over the drop seat, to thereby notoniy h'old up"the-drop seat against the Waist,and in such a manment suspended from the Waist and to maintainboth front/and rear smooth and neat.
This. device can be readily and quickly buckled and unbuckled, andithe seat will thendrop down.v fully; and thus, though the garmentisio-all appearances and efiects a,
pair. ofr'fullesizerregular chaps over trousers,
' it is notWith-standing pa-rticularly Well adapt ed tobe readily manipulated by children in a hurry and is withal a cheap and simple but unitary and. durable single-garment play suit.
A cowboyiplaygarmentcomprising a front Y piece ofi'materialzofrthee kind used :for chaps and rear piece-of material-30f thekind used for trousers; piecesof. material extending from the outside of 'bothlegs and. forming flaps; a belt: around theewaist portion of said. garment, wider in front; and permanently fastened tosaid front piece," bel-tloopson said rear piece adapted to receive saidf belt and I a drop seat in. saidrea-r piece: adapted to be supported by said beltz and belt loops and" fastened tosaid front' 'teners alongthe.sides.-
In testimony whereofli-aifix my signature.
