JOE-L SD-nj A BY *u mden-.- m au m4, j 3 TTORNEY??A meme 1388.23, 1980 y UNITED STATES JOHN E. STRONG, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN CABINET FOR TELEPHONES AND THE LIKE Application led April 10, 1930. Serial No. 443,039.
The present invention relates to cabinets for telephones and the like; and its object is to provide an improved structure of that character having parts movable to and from 5 a position of use by a single manually operated part. This and any other objects hereinater a pearing are attained by, and the invention nds preferable embodiment in, the structure hereinafter particularly described 10 in the body of this specification and illustrated by tlte accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a cabinet shown in closed position;
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof but showing the same in its opened position of use;
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the same in said open position, taken on a vertical plane corresponding to line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a sectional view of the same taken on the same vertical plane but showing.
the cabinet in the closed position seen in Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a sectional view of certain parts taken on a horizontal plane corresponding to line 5--5 of Figure 3; and
Figure 6 is a front elevational view of the.
bottom part of the cabinet.
In these drawings, a cabinet suitable for telephones, etc. is shown, comprising a frame having vertical side walls 1, l, a. rear wall 2 and a front wall 3, connected by front corner posts 5, 5 and rear corner posts 6, 6. This cabinet frame contains a horizontal table 7 having lateral projections 8 slidably guided in the vertical guides or ways 9 so that the table may be moved to the raised position of use shown in Figure 3 and lowered to the position of non-use seen in Figure 4.
A closure or cover 10 is swingably mounted at 11 on the rear of the top of the frame, and a pair of links 12, 12 pivoted at 13 on the 45 table and at 14 on the inner side of the 4cover serve to move the table vertically by the.
swinging movement of the cover, or to swing the cover by the vertical movement of the table.
u A seat 15 is swingably mounted at 16 on and between the front posts 5, 5 and may belowered to the horizontal usable position shown in Figures 2 and 3 and raised to a vertical position of nonuse in front of the front wall 3 seen in Figures 1 and 4. A support or leg 55 17 is pivotally connected at 18 on the under side of the seat, and a link 19 is pivotally connected at 20 to said leg and at 21 to the frame,
as to the cross bar 22 extending between the front posts 5, 5. When this leg 17 and the 60 seat 15 are folded together in the position shown in Figures 1 and 4, this link 19 is received into a groove extending vertically (in the position of the parts seen in said views) in either the seat or in the inner side of the 05 leg, and preferably into the registering grooves 23 and 24 in said partslrespectively as particularly well shown in Figure 4.
It will be seen that this link 19 is concealed from view in these slots when the seat 70 is turned upwardly as seen in Figure 1. A pair of links 25, 25 are pivotally connected at 26 to the table 7 or to its projections 8, 8 on its under side and at 27 to the inner portion or arm 28 of? the seat which arm extends 75 inwardly from the pivotal mounting of the seat at 16.
A knob handle 29 is carried on the outer upper portion of the leg 17. It will be seen that the seat 15 may be lowered, the table 89 7 raised and the cover 10 opened either by drawing the knob handle 29 outwardly or by raising the cover 10 by hand, and that the parts may be returned to a position of nonuse by a` reverse movement of either of said 85 manually operated parts.
As shown, the table 7, adapted to support a telephone or the like, may be provided with an open-top container 30 for papers, books and the lik 90 The invention being intended to be pointed outl in the claims, is not to be limited to or by details of'rr construction of the particular embodiment thereof illustrated by the drawings or hereinbefore described. 9
