This invention relates to an improved printers appliance, which because of the function which it serves may be conveniently and briefly titled a type form storage and lock up frame and it has more particular reference to a structure for use in printing establishments, newspaper offices, linotype rooms and kindred business places.
In accordance with my construction the invention comprises a simple multiple part frame, wherein the parts are separably connected together and cooperate in a manner to produce a structure which is el'licient in performance, positive and dependable in action, economical and otherwise proficient in fulfilling the requirements of an invention of this class.
The invent-ion is regarded as original in the trade, in that it does away with string go tying of forms, a custom in vogue since time nnmemorlal. It avoids the practice of six or more tyings and untyings to make correc-' tions when proofing the work. As a rule, approximately thirty minutes are spent in doing this particular work, and this is overcome with the present sectional frame wherein assembly is permitted in less than five minutes, the correction made and the form readjusted in minimum time, saving on an average of twenty minutes on each form handled.
I further have evolved and produced a structure which can be successfully locked in a chase, when taken from storage, and this without delay.
The structure is unusually practical, being made to accommodate regular type measurement. It can always be locked up at right angles and it can be taken to the proofing press and impressions taken of' types. set therein in a convenient manner.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.

The opposite ends of, themembers 4t and 5 are of the construction detailed in Figure 3. Referring to this figure, it will be seen that each side member is bifurcated at each end and thefurcations are designatedby the reference characters 6 and 7 respectively, the outer furcations 16 being slightly longer than the inner ones. p
, Extending crosswise of these furcations and approximately half as high as the furcations are comparatively short cross pieces or plates 8 and Qadapted to function as keepers.
The complemental end ofcthe end member 5 is directed at right angles as at 10 and adapted for reception between the furcations 6 and 7 y to form interlocking joints. The lower edge of this end portion 10 is formed with spaced notches 11 to engage the keeper plate and thereby provide a dependable and firm joint.
The frame will be made in practical sizes for printing office and newspaper ad Work. The type pieces 4 may range from thirty-six, fifty-four and seventy-two picas more or less, whereas the end members may range from twenty-four, thirty-six, and sixty picas more or less. Also provide a structure, one or more columns in width when used by newspapers. In fact, .it is within the conception of the invention to make the frame for regular type measurement.
In operation, the types are assembled in the frame in the customary manner. -When this has been finished, the complete assembly is pulled in on the galley. It is then taken to the proofing press, inked and the impression taken. I
In composing, it will only be necessary to lift the end member and to adjust it out, one notch to make a correction and to replace the end member and to force it down so that it will 7 be flush with the complementalside members. This looks the form. It can then be placed in chase ready to be locked up for the press and the other type matter, and cuts can be locked in the same form if necessary. In removing from chase, the operator moves the frame on the form and slips it on a boardand files it away for future reference, labelling :it before putting it on the shelf.
