v/ A drum shaft 14 is supported on the front faces of the osts 5 and 6 in bearings 15 and 16, which) are preferably -of the self-v aligning type. .Mounted on the drum shaft is a drum 17 which may be of any suitable -or desirable construction. The drum V17 is herein illustrated as including a s ool portion 18 havingintegral anges 19 ormed at .its opposite ends and bearing race portions 20 within which roller bearings 21 are mounted tojournal the drum 17 on the shaft 14. The shaft 14 is driven by means of'a' sprocket 22 lwhich is secured thereto between the post 5 and the flange of thedrum .17. at this end of the drawworks. In order to hold the drum 17 properly .positioned upon the shaft 14 and. to prevent endwise motion of the same, a spacer collar 23 is mounted between the hub of the sprocket 22 and thebearing race por-` tion 20 of the drum 17 Means are rovided for engaging the drum 17 with the s aft 14, which means preferably Y comprises a clutch 24 of the jaw type permittmg the drum'17 to be engaged with the shaft 14 to rotate the drum 17 1n either direction. The line shaft 40 is driven through either of the sprockets 44 or 45 4from any suitable or desirable engine, motor or the like, as isi commonly employed for the driving of rotary drawworks.. .The sprockets 44 and 45 are provided and lare of different diameters and have different numbers of teeth formed thereon so as to permit the line shaft 40tot be driven at different speeds. Means are pro` vided for drivingthe jackashaft 43 from the line shaft 40, which means4 referably' comprise sprockets 46 and 47 whic "are journaled upon the line shaft 40. Clutches 48' and 49 are provided for engaging `the lsprockets 46 and 47, respectively, with the line shaft 40. The jack shaft 43 is driven from the line shaft 40 by means ofchains,
not shown, from the sprockets 46 and 47 to sprockets 50 and 51 secured to the jack shaft 43. The drive provided by the sprockets" 46 and 50 provide a high speed drive, and the drive provided by the sprockets 47 and 51 provide 'a low speed drive. In. order to permit the drive connection between the-line shaft 40 and the jack shaft 43 .-to be. made so that the jack shaft 43 may be driven in either direction from the line shaft 40, the clutch a 48 is preferably of the jaw type.
