Description
L. G. YQUNG LOTHES DRIER Dec. 2, 1930.,l
Filed Deo. 27, 1929 mmm l. @.Yof
Patented Dec. 2, 1930 UNITED STATES LELAND e. YOUNG, orV MUscATINE, IOWA CLOTHES DRIER Application led December 2v?, 1929.V Serial No. 416,876.
This invention relates to portable clothes driers, and aims to provide a novel form of clothes drier which may be readily-and easily Y folded into a small and compact article for storing or transportation.
An important object of the invention is to provide removable arms, so constructed that when they are positioned for supporting articles thereon, twisting of the arms or accidental displacement of the arms will be prevented.
A further object of the invention is to pro-4 vide a device of this character wherein the arms may be detached and replaced without the use of screws, bolts or tools of any kind.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a clothes drier which may be rotated to the end that articles may be positioned on the arms of the device while `the 2o person is standing at one side of the drier.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com-- bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a clothes drier constructed in accordance with the invention, the upper and lower ends thereof being shown in section.
Figure 2 is a fragmental plan view lof the clothes drier. v
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the arm supporting disk or head, rshowing arms as positioned in the openings thereof.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line Figure 5 is a fragmentalperspective view illustrating one of the supporting arms.
Figure 6 is an enlarged sectional view of the base.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the body portion of the clothes drier, the same being 59 tubular in formation.
At the upper end of the body portion 5 is a head 6 which is formed with a raised central portion 7 and lateral openings 8, the lateral openings 8 lextending to the outer edges of the head 6,`which is of a diameter to extend beyondV the side of the body portion 5.
At the lower end of the body portion is a disk 7 that is provided with a downwardly extended bearing member 8 fitted in an opening in the base 9 in such a way that the body portion 5 may rotate on the base. A washer indicated at 10 rests against the under surface of the base and receives the lower end of Jghe rod 11, for holding the body portion to the ase. I
This rod 11 is secured to the head 7 as clearly shown by Figure 4 of the drawing.
vThe base is provided with extensions 11 that are formed with openings to receive the bolts 1f2-l that extend through the leg members 13, the inner ends of the bolts accommodating the winged nuts 14, so that the leg members may be released and rotated or moved to positions parallel with the body portion to facilitate storing, or moved to their extended positions, for supporting the device.
The arms 15, form an important feature of the invention, and as shown each of these arms is provided with a flattened end porv tion 16 adapted to frictionally engage the under surface of the head 6, as shown by Figure 4 of the drawing, the portions of the arms adjacent to the portions 16, resting in the lateral openings. Thus it will be obvious that due to this construction, the arms will be held against twisting when they are in their extended positions.
Formed at the outer ends of the arms 15 are loops 17 that have straight portions 18designed to rest against the head 6 within the openings thereof to insure against movement of the rods when they are in their inactive positions.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that due to this construction, the desired number of arms 15 may be withdrawn from the body portion 5 and moved to their extended positions to support articles for drying.V
I claim:
1. A clothes drier comprising ,L tubular body portion, a head at the upper end of the body portion, said head having a central raised portion and having lateral openings, arms ositioned within the openings and having attened inner extremities deining shoulders near the inner ends of the arms, the flattened inner extremities adapted to rest against the head at a point within the raised portion to hold the arlns against rotary 1novement, said shoulders adapted to engage the edge of the head to restrict inward movement of the arms, and supporting legs at the lower end of the body portion.
2. A clothes drier Comprising a tubular body portion, a head at the upper end oi' the body portion, a disk at the lower end of the body portion, a rod connected with the head and extending through the disk, said disk having a bearing, a base having an opening to receive the bearing, a nut on the lower end of the rod for securing the head and disk to the body portion, arms extending from the upper end of the body portion, and support` ing legs for the body portion.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto atiXed my signature.
LELAND G. YOUNG.
