Description

Patented. Nov. '25, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENTQFFICE This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in kites and has for its primary object to provide a kite having a skeleton frame covered with sheet material of either paper or cloth, a looped cord or the like being attached to the frame with the sheet covering secured to the cord.
A further object of the invention is to pro- Vide a kite comprising a frame having radial ribs with a cord strand provided with a plurality of loops inclosing the ends of the ribs with the sheet covering'of the kite connected a to the cord.
With the above and other objects inview that will appear as the nature of the'invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of a kite constructed in accordance with the present invention, the kite being of star-formation with the looped cord inclosing the ends of the ribs forming the star and further showing the sheet covering secured to the cord;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary enlarged eleva tional view showing one of the cord loops extending across the outer end of a radial rib;
and

CHARLES NAGY, or HILLSIDE, NEW JERSEY KITE Application. filed July 5, 1928. Serial No. 290,509.
The kite frame comprising the radial ribs 1 maybe covered with any desired material, such as paper or cloth and to accommodate the mounting of the material upon the frame, there is provided a cord arrangement com-, prising a plurality of loops attachedto the outer ends of the ribs 1 as shown in Figures 1 and 2. The cord 5 carries a plurality of adjacent positioned loops that extend across the outerends of the ribs 1 as at 6with the side portions 7 of the loops connected to the cord 5 as at 8. When all of the loops are engagedwith the outer ends of the ribs, the entire cord arrangement is placed in a stretched and taut condition with the cord section 5 0 forming apolygonal design as illustrated in V Figure 1 with sections thereof extending across the ribs 1. The sheet covering 9 is of stanformation and completely covers the tight frame, the side edges of the points be 5 ing turned over the side sections of the loops.

invention as claimed.
7 as at 10 and adhesively or otherwisere-' The kite carries a re-, straining or flying cord 11 attached to the kite body as shown in Figure 1. a i In the form of the inventlon shown in Fig ure 3, the kite frameis formed of wire and comprises radial arms 12 suitably secured to gether at their inner meeting ends as at-13, -while the outer ends are suitably secured to azig-zag wire frame defining star points 14. From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed thatthe construction and operation will at oncebe'apparent, and 1 while there is herein shown and described the so preferred embodiments of the present inven; tion, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without 1 departingfrom'the spirit andscope of the What I'cla'irn as new is A kite comprising a frame havingradial ribs rigidly secured together at their intersections, a cord attached to the ends of the ribs and providing loops between the ribs, 00
and a cord attached to the loops midway of the ribs and forming a floating element of polygonal shape located between the ends of the ribs and their intersecting points and drawing inwardly the loops to define a starshaped skeleton frame, said frame being covered with a sheet of suitable material, tail elements being attached to a plurality of ribs, and a flying cord having branches leading from its principal length to a plurality of ribs.
In testimony whereof I alfix my signature.
CHARLES NAGY.
