This invention relates to an improved construction of ophthalmic mounting; and has for its object to provide in such a mounting a pair of spaced non-metallic eyewires, each having an enlargement on its inner edge and a connecting .bridge member having a cross barwith side arms, the ends of the side arms being attached to said enlargements by which the bridge is attached to the eyewires.

A further obj ect of the invention is to shape the enlargements. on the eyewires so as to form. nose-guard members and to attach the lower end on each arm of the connecting bridge member to said enlargement.

The invention further consists in inserting the free ends ofthe bridge side arms into an opening in the enlargement and also to provide cooperating means on the side arms for further securing them to the eyewires.

lith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in tbe appended claims. i

It is found of advantage in the practical construction of ophthalmic mountings of this character, in some instances, particularly where the eyewires are made of a non-metallic material to form the nose-guardmembers integral with the inner edges of the eyewires and to form these nose guards in such a way as to provide a shoulder at their upper 11 ends, each having an opening into which a free end of the bridge arm may extend for the purpose of connecting the eyewires together. Also, it is found of advantage in construction are preferably formed of nonmetallic material and are provided with enlargements 11 on their inner edges.

These enlargements are preferably shaped to extend rearwardly as at 12 to perform the function of nose-guard members and each enlargement provides a shoulder 13 which has. an opening or hole 14 to receive the end of its bridge arm.

The form of bridge preferably employed 'in this style of mounting is herein shown as having a cross bar 15 set substantially flush with the upper edges of the eyewires and provided with inwardly-curved arms 16. The end portions 17 of these arms being arranged to extend each into its opening l-LL in the enlargement of the eyewire and may be secured therein by cementing or other suitable means. Also it is found in some cases of advantage to provide an auxiliar f fastening for the bridge member which in some cases comprises the soldering of a rivet 18 which may be tubular in form, if desired, to the upper portions of 4the arms of the bridge member and extend these rivets thru the eyewire to be upset or riveted as at 19, against the inner surface thereof, while in other instances instead of using rivets I may provide a clamp member 2O on these bridge arms which may be folded about the eyewire with the ends 21 folded inwardly, as best illustrated 1n F lgs. 7 and 8, if desired. I

By my improved construction of ophthalmic mountin the lower ends of the bridge arms are rigi ly and securely fastened to the enlargements of the eyewires and when these enlargements are shaped to form the noseguards a Very neat and attractive mountmg is rovided.

rI1)`he foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptlble, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.

I claim: l

1. An ophthalmic mounting comprising a pair of spaced non-metallic4 eyew1res,. nose guard members integral therewith andA having recesses therein, a bridge member having a pair of downwardly-'extending side arms, the free end of each arm continuing its general extent into and terminating in and being secured in the recess of the corresponding nose uard member.

2. n ophthalmic mounting comprising a pair of spaced non-metallic eyewires, nose guard members integral therewith and having recesses therein, a bridgey member having elongated downwardly-extending side arms secured in the recesses of` said nose guard members, and means between the nose guard members and the juncture of said arms and connecting portion of the brid e therebetween for further securing each ridge arm to the associated eyewire.

3. A n ophthalmic mounting comprising a pair'of spaced non-metallic eyewires, nose guard members integral with said eyewires and extending rearwardly therefrom and a. bridge member having elongated downwardly-extending side arms closely following said eyewires and terminating in and secured to said nose guardl members.` o

4. An -ophthalmic mounting comprising a pair kof spaced non-metallic eyewires, nose guard members integral with said eyewires and extending rearwardly therefrom and each having an opening therein, a lbridge .member having elongated downwardly ex,`

nose guar tending side arms closely following the eyewires, each being secured in said openings in said nose guard members, and cooperating fastening means on said bridge arms and eye- Wires at a point above and removed from said to further assist in securing the bridge to the eyewires.
