CUTLERY CLEANING DEVICE Filed Dec. 12, 1928 Patented Nov. 4, 1 930 UNITED STATES HARRY WILLIAMS, F, vnnconvnmianrrrsn; COLUMBIA, CAN-Ann oUTLERY-oLEAnINGj nnvxcii Application filed December 12,?1925." SerialfNo. 3 2 5, 1'i'4: v i v lfl'forks, or the like;- the extremities thereof adapted to extend into a circular passageformed between the said ring and wall of the cohtainer-L-said passageadapted to receive and contain a cleaning fluid and shot (30111- bined, the machine being so disposed that the aforesaid cylindrical member is driven by suitable friction or tooth gearing while being capable of a hinged movement whereby the said container may be readily lifted from a of loading and unloading either the cleaning fluid, or the cutlery to be cleaned.
Referring to the drawings: 7 r V Figure 1 is an end elevational view showing the container in a horizontal plane for loading.
Figure 2 is an end elevation showing the 1 container in a vertical plane for working with part of the container broken away.
Figure 3 is a side view showingthe trunnion bearing and drivin shaft. c
Figure 4 is a detail roken section of packing means. In the drawings: 7 g p Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in'each'figure. I
1 represents asuitable housing or frame, having adjustably mounted therein, through suitable bearings 2, a trunnioned shaft 8, on which is provided a short extension member 4: rotatably mounted on which is a cylindrical container 5, said container being provided with a hinged cover 6 and a gearing band 7 cast integral with the container 5 on the outer periphery thereof. V
' The aforesaid container when'rotated by the hinged action of the trunnion 3 to position as shown in Figure 2, engages through the gearing member 7 with a pinw ion 8, said pinion being positioned on a drivvertical to a horizontal planelforthe purpose ing shaft 9, which in turn is disposed within suitable bearings 10, said. shaft 9 being adapted tofreceive power from any suitable motor, or otherprime mover, directly co'u pled thereto; Disposed within the framing 1 is across stay 11 adapted to receive, one ,or' more back stops,.or rest; pieces} 12,,which takefthe jweight offthe container 5 Whensaid container isswung upward to loading or n11; loading position. Theframing member 1 may be suitably aflixed to anyfwork sh op' floor by means of bolts or screws at 13; #As the container 5 while in working position,
being adapted for engagement with said pinion gear, when aforesaid container is rotated to extend in a vertical plane, and a drive shaft on which said pinion gear is mounted to impart rotary motion to the aforesaid container.
HARRY WILLIAMS.
I am aware, that prior to my invention 1' various machines for cleaning cutleryhave been 1n use, but do not beheveattempts have been made to individually retain articles of cutlery to be cleaned, 'nor' has provision been made for ease in loading and unloading, wherebythe hands of the operator will 'be protected in this operation. It will readily be seen that I have invented a device enabling a great number of cutlery articles to be-cleaned and polished at one time with dispatch and efiiciency, also presenting ease of loading and unloading of the articles, and the filling and emptying of the cleaning compound into and out of the device. 7 What I claim is:
1. Ina cutlery cleaning device, the combination vof a frame, a trunnioned shaft mounted therein, provided with an extension shaft, a cylindrical container rotatably mounted upon said extension shaft, said container-being providedwith an annular ring having radially disposed cutlery receiving slots, said ring being so positioned as to provide an annular fluid passage between the ring and container wall adapted to receive the extremities of cutlery when positioned in aforesaid radially disposed slots, the
aforesaid fluid passage being adapted to receive apredetermined amount of cleaning fluid in combination with shot, when said container is in its loading position with aforesaid extension shaft in a vertical plane, cover means on said container, and rest means provided on aforesaid frame to retain aforesaid container in loading position.
2. In a cutlery cleaning device, the com-f bination of a frame, a trunnioned shaft mounted therein,,provided with an extension shaft, a cylindrical container rotatably mounted upon said extension shaft, said container being provided with an annular ring having radially disposed cutlery receiving slots, said ring being so positioned as to provide an annular fiuid'passage between the ring and container wall, adapted to receive the extremities of cutlery when positioned in aforesaid radially disposed slots, the aforesaid fluid passage being adapted to receive a predetermined amount of cleaning fluid in combination with shot, sealing cover means on said container, said container having a gear cast integral with the outer pe riphery thereof, a pinion gear, said first gear
