Description

Oct'. 28, 1930. G. G. DORMAN COLLAPSIBLE CAMP sTovE 2 sheets-sheet 2 Filed Aug. 19, 1929 WITNESS Ww@ avm ' ATTORNEY Patented i Oct. 28, 1.930
GARLAND G. DOR-MAN', OIEiCOLVILL),r WASHINGTON coLLAPsIBLE cAMP strovn f Application'led August 19, 1929. Serial'Nok.v38',990. i
f This invention relates to a collapsible camp stove, the essential qualities ot which are cheapness, lightness, strength and durability combined with ease andrrapidity in setting up and taking down and which ,canf be folded compactly in a small space and yet .capable of heating and cooking with high eiciency.
Another object is to so construct a stove lo of this character Which While highly reilicient as a heater and cook stove is composed of a minimum number of parts which when assembled and set up Will provide a collapsible air tight heater and cook stove.
Another object is to so .construct and connect the sections as tofienderthem resistant to warping yincident to the use of thin gauge metal and which if Warped may be easily erably at one of `ther rear ycorners...With a` v` ystove pipe receiving opening Whichhas a P straightened out.
Y tion is susceptible of a Wide range'of modification Without departing `trom the spiriti or sacrificing any vof the advantages of the claimed invention; there being shown in the y drawings 'for illustrative purposes a preferred and practical form, in Which:
Figure 1 represents a perspective View yof a stove constructed inl accordance with this invention setup ready `for use;
, taken onthe line 2 2 of Fig. 1
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken onthe line 3 3 of Figf2; Y
Fig. ,4 is a perspective viewshowing the stove collapsed With theA members partly sep-` arated; and f Fig. 5 is a'detail perspective View of one of the corners of the stove showing the connection between the side and. end membersf Ink the embodiment illustrated the stove constituting this inventionis composed of tive sections.L The front section'fl, rear section ,2, and side sections 3 and t which are designed tobe connectedattheends in a manner presently to be describedv and are held in assembledposition by `'means of a top 5 provided with ya circumstantially kextending iange .Giwhich slips downy over the upper ends of the side and endmembers and holds In carrying out these objects, the inven-V The front is ixirovided'withy a hinged door .12 held closed y by anysuitable `fastening `means, a swinging vlat'ch Sb'arrl?) being here shovvn.k adapted' to i enter keeper carried by the front as shoivngcleaily in Fig. 1. f Fig. 2fis a longitudinal section thereot'VV "(see 1).
them rigidly connected. The front Vand rear section sare provided along the'ends thereof with grooved guides k7 ivhi'ch are foldedtwice to reinforce and strengthen them at this pointv and provided with *an*l opening groove to receivelongitudinally extending fianges 8 Vcarried byv the ends oftheside members 3 and 4t 'which are slidably mounted'y in the guides 7, thereby forming air tight joint connectionsat these points.
YTheside andend members of the stove arev` provided at their upper ends above the grooves and flanges and 8 withnpstanding vflanges 9 over Which isjdesignedtobe mounted the Vflanged top 5, the ianige '6 ofsaid; top

CII
member,
By 'extending the collar 11 inwardly instead of outwardly the top member Y5 when disassembled may be compactly packed and when in use it Will support a pipe. l
The tapering of the front,' rear and side Walls of the stove members towards the topA thereof provides a solid Vreliable support. this Valso provides for the drawing awayfof heatA Vtrom kthe top of the stove for the purpose'` K of cooking. l1
In the collapsing of this stove the parts.. are separated and placed one upon the other v 2 Y r 1,780,068
with the top of the stove fitting in last so that the stove when collapsed will occupy a minimum amount of space and when desired for use these parts may be quickly assembled 5 by slidably engaging the front and rear members with the ends of the side members l and then placing the'top over the upper rojecting edges or flanges of these mem ers thereby securely locking them together in air-tight rigid relation. It will thus be seen that the corner construction of the stove ink 5 connection with the relative position of the side members with the top constitutesk the gist of the invention.
Without further description it is thought that the features and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the Lart, and it will, of course, be understood that changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to, Without departingvfrom the spirit of the invention or its scopel as claimed.
I claim:
n 1. A knock down, sheet metal stove comprising end and side'members tapering from Y their lower toward their upper ends and adapted to be interlockingl'v engaged, one of Y said membersliaving adouble inturned "fold to form a vertical guide and the other having a longitudinally extending flange to fit in the guide, the upper ends of said side and end members having extensions above the flanges and guides thereof,k and a top having a depending flange adapted to fit over said extensions and securely hold said sides and l ends in operative position. y 2. A knock down, sheet metal stove comprising end and side members tapering from 40 their lower toward their upper ends and adapted to be interlockingly engaged, one'of said members having a double inturned fold to form a vertical guide and the other having a longitudinally extending flange to fit in the `guide`r and a top to rfit snugly yover the upper ends of said members to hold them rigidly assembled, said top member having a pipe receiving aperture therein provided vvitha depending collar extending into the o'kmterior ofthe stove.
