This invention relates to a novel Vending for the keeping thereof in wholesome and has a display rack therein on which the nuts in tissue Wrappers may be placed to be removed by the customer himself upon raising the lid. Figures 1 and 2 are vertical cross sections through a vending cabinet made in accordance with my invention, the former being taken through the middle of the cabinet and the latter through one end thereof.

The cabinet comprises a wooden base 5 having rubber knobs 6 on the under side thereof to, support the cabinet slightly raised from a show case or other convenient support on which it may be placed. The intention is to have the cabinet easily accessible to the customer who mayhelp himself to wrappers of nuts 7 contained therein. as at 9 to the wooden back 10, may be raised by the customer from in front of the cabinet.

There are thus two distinct alarms sounded which are not apt It is obvious that a'case of this kind minimizes the losses through theft and at thesame time tends to stimulate business, because the merchandise is displayed in such away that it is handy for the customer to help himself.

In closing, it will be observed that a; display light 22 is also mounted in the cabinet beneath the tray 12. The socket 23 for this light has a thermostatic unit therein arranged to cause the light to flash on and off better to The light also furnishes suflicient heatto keep the contents of the cabinet thoroughly free from moisture from without by dryingthe-incoming fresh air. The air is taken in through an opening 24 in the bottom of the caseand rises through the openings 25 in the tray 12 and circulates about the wrappers of nuts 7 and finally leaves the cabinet by a number of outlet openings 26. Screens are provided at 27 and 28 to keep out insects.

I claim:

1. In a cabinet comprising a substantially closed case, a closure such as a lid aiiording access to the inside of said case and hinged for swinging movement to and from closed position, an alarm bell, said bell having a finger piece extending therefrom tothe wall of the case arranged when moved to sound the bell, and means adjacent the hinged end of the closure arranged to operate the bell in the swinging movement of said closure, said means comprising a plunger engaging the finger piece for moving the same in one direction, and a spring for moving said finger piece normally in the other direction.

In a cabinet comprising a substantially closed case having a lid closing the open top thereof and hinged on one wall of the case for swinging movement to and from closed position, an alarm bell, and means substanitally entirely received and concealed. within a vertical wall of the case for operation by the hinged end of the lid to operate the bell in the swinging movement of said lid, said means comprising a plunger received in a hole bored into said wall downwardly from the top thereof, there being a slot provided in said wall near the lower end of said hole opening into the same and there being a linger piece on said alarm bell extending through said slot for engagement by the lower end of said plunger, the slot permitting movement of the finger piece with the plunger whereby the same is arranged to be moved in one direction by the plunger in the closing of said lid, and a coiled compression spring seated in the lower end of said hole and engaging the underside of the finger piece, said spring being placed under compression in the closing of said lid and being arranged to move the finger piece in the opposite direction when the lid is raised and at the same time raise the plunger for subsequent depression by the lid. in the closing thereof.

3. In a cabinet of the character described comprising a substantially closed case, a lid affording access to the inside of said case and hinged for swinging movement to and from closed position, an alarm bell having a member extending therefrom and arranged to be moved to sound the bell, means arranged to operate the bell in the swinging movement of the lid, said means comprising a plunger member operated by the lid for moving the first member in one direction, and spring means for moving one of said members nor-- mally in the opposite direction.
