Description

ATTACHMENT FOB WATCH CHAINS Filed March 21 1929 Attorney I I Patented Oct. 21, 1930 v "Armacmvrmv'r nonwares: cnrmvs ig pli cation filedlMarchQl, l929. f Ser ia1 ;No. 348,801; r
This invention relatesto an attachment for watch chains, and more especially' to an at tachment whereby the chain may be suspended from a belt, vest, or fromthe button'hole' 5 in the coat lapel, or any part of agarment whereby a button hole is used to hold the chain, and it is'desired by the wearer to so wear the watch,
Theprimary object of this invention is to provide an improved means whereby one end of a watch chain,may be suspended'from the coat lapel, or from any part of the garment where a button hole is available, or if desired upon the beltof the wearer, without in any way altering the construction of the attachment. Another, very important object of my ini vention is to provide a device of this charac ter which is ec0nomical,-handy and very 'simple to operate. 7 V v The above and numerous other objects of the invention will be apparent during a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein I Figure is a plan view with parts broken away showing my improved 'watch'chain attachment.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view tak en on line 22 of'Figure 1.
With attention directed to .theldrawing more in detail, it will be seen that my improved attachment comprises an elongated bar 5, the opposite ends of'which are bent as ing ends 66 which terminate in spaced relavtion as clearly shown iniFigure 1. Each of the ends 6-6 of the bar 5-is provided with a longitudinally extendingbore 7 of relatively small diameter,- andiare adapted to receive the laterally projecting. pins 8 8 projecting from adjacent the open end 9 of a ring '10 which'is adapted to be disposed intermediate the ends 6-6 of the .bar 5.. vprojections 4 8 fit within the bore 7 in' a manner loose enough to permit a movement'of the ring 10 when desired. There is also provided a ring 11 which is loosely carried by the bar 5 for have hereinshown and described the prea purpose to be hereinafter set forth. 1 In use, one end of a watch chain, not
at 88, to provide a pair of inwardly extend shown,;may be linkedor otherwise fixed to thelring .11, and the" bar 5,.formed as describediso' as to provide an elongated loop, may be posi'tion'ed through the hole'in a coat lapel orin any button hole fromqwhich it is desired to suspend thewatch. chain, in a m a'nner conventional to the ordinary bar usedon I 5 a 'watch chain for this purpose -.However, when it is desired to: use theattachment in; a manner "similar to many devices, now in use forattachingthe chain to thebelt of a Wear er, the wearer" can simply and conveniently 7 pass the belt ythrouglnthe elongated loop formed bythe'bar 5 and ther'ing 11' placed at eitherendof the bar to permit suflicient play of the watch chain, when the watch isplaced v within thefwatch pocket of the trousers.
,ll/Vhen-the baris inserted througl 'the-hole 7 formed in the coat lapel,-or 'through'any e button hole. formed in the Wearersapparel, the ring 11 is preferably placedwith-in the ringlO, as shown in Figure l sincethe bar- 5 extends for a sufiicient'distance from either side of the ring 10 to insure the prevention of the bar 511frOm' slipping-through the f holein the lapel or'button hole. 7 It is-also apparent that if the bar 5 be to lieflat againstthe inner face of. the belt, and in this way will inconvenience the Wearer in no manner whatsoever,
placed onthe belt with the ring portion 10 vbeing disposed inwardly toward the body of the wearer, the-ring 10 may beturned so as i Heretofore, many. separate attachments V for, chains have been provided, but these attachments have been provided for one purv pose, namely, either as an attaching means for fastening the watch chain to a belt, of whichthere are many known devices now in useyor the provision ofan elongated b-ar adapted ftozbeattached tothe end of the chain for suspending the chain onvthe coat lapel or; button hole, whereasmy improved "attachment can be'used for either one of" these purposes, and fromlthe foregoing desoriptioniit will be seen thatmy attachment will be thoroughly reliable and efficient in While I use in either of'these capacities.
ferred embodiment of my invention,1it is" to be understood, however, that" minor changes in shape, size, and materials, coming Within the field of invention claimed mayj be resortedtoif desired.
' Having thus described. the invention, What I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent is 1.111 a new article of manufacture, an
attachingbar bent to provide an elongated loop, the opposite ends ofsaid bar terminae ing in spaced relation, an open endedtring. v adapted for engagement vvith a Watch chain, cord or the like pivotally mountedbetween said ends, and a second ring loosely carried by the loop and engageable With sa-id first mentioned ring.
2. In anew article ofmanufactui'e, com;
prising an elongated bar adapted for use with a Watch chain, and said bar having its opposite ends bent inwardly toward each otherand terminating in spaced relation, a
longitudinally extending bore formed each of said ends, a ring, projections eX- tending "laterally from the ring, and adapted toenter the bore in each of the respective ends of said bar; 1
35 A new article otinanufacture, come Y prising an elongated bar adapted foruse With a Watch chain, and said bar having its opposite ends bent inwardly toward each other and terminating in spaced relation, a
longitudinally extending bore formed in each of said ends, a ringhaving an opening formed therein, pins extending laterally from the ring adjacent said opening,'and
adapted to enter thebore formed in each of n the, adjacent ends of said bar, and a ring loosely carried by "said bar.
In testimony whereof I afiig my' 'signature'. .7 V HARRY ORVILLE BLAGK:
