SLICING MACHINE Filed June 16, 1928 Patented Oct. 14, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CORNELIS F. M. VAN BERKEL, F WASSENAAR, NETHERLANDS, ASSIGNOR TO U. S. SLIC- ING MACHINE COMPANY,OF LA FORTE, INDIANA, A CORPORATION OF INDIANA' SLICING MACHINE Application filed June 16, 1928, Serial No. 285,900, and in the Netherlands June 30, 1927.
This invention relates to, slicing machines having a power driven rotating knife and a Work table that is manually reciprocated past the edge of the knife.
. It is the object of this invention to provide the work table with a feeding mechanism that will be actuated by the operator when he reciprocates the work table.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a meat slicing machine according ,to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view; and i Fig. 3 is a detail on a larger scale.
the machine, 2 the bracket in which the knife 3 is rotatably mounted, 4 the reciprocating carriage, and 5 the upper table which is movable transversely thereon. 26 is an electric motor for rotating the slicing knife 3.
The feeding mechanism forthe work table 5 comprises a; screw 6 .journaled in lugs 15 and 16 extending fromthecarriage and a half-nut 8 carried by the work table 5 through the arms 24 and 22. These arms are pivoted at 23 and a spring 25 urges the half-nut 8 against thescrew 6. A sleeve 9 surrounds the screw 6 and is fixed at one end in the lug 15 and the other end rests on the smooth portion of the screw 6. A handle 10 is journaled on the sleeve 9 through bearing portions 17 and: 18. The handle 10 carries stop lugs 11 and 12 located on opposite sides of the sleeve 9 which co-operate with stop lugs 13 and 14: carried by the carriage 4. The screw 6 has a ratchet 20 fixed to the one end which co-operates witha pawl 19 mounted on the handle 10; 1 The size of the rotary steps cap 21'.
of the ratchet wheel induced by the pawl may be adjusted by means of an adjustable Fig. 3' shows'on a larger scale how the 7 sleeve 9 is provided with a slot on thelower surface for permitting the entry of the segmental nut 8. I a
It will be seen that when the operator grasps the handle 10 to reciprocate the work carriage, the handle 10 will rotate about the sleeve 9 until the lugs 11 abut the stop In these figures, l indicates the frame of lugs 13, whereupon the carriage 4 will be moved past the knife.
This initial rotary movement of the handle 10 will rotate the ratchet an amount determined by the distance between the lugs 11 and 13. At the end of the reciprocating movement of the carriage, the operator pulls on the handle 10 and rotates it in the opposite direction until the lugs 12 abut the stop lugs 14 whereupon the carriage 1 will be pulled toward the operator. The rotation of the handle 10 on this reverse movement of the carriage4 will reset the pawl on the ratchet, as'shown in Fig. 1.
The cap 21 is held in adjusted position by the engagement of one end of the spring 27 supported at 28 on the carriage 4, with a a work table on said carriage, a handle for manually reciprocating said table, said handle being movable relative to said table when force is applied to reciprocate said table, a feeding mechanism mounted on the same side of said table as said handle, and a connection between said feeding mechanism and handle causing the actuation of said feeding mechanism during the movement of said handle in one direction.
