IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-SUPPORTS.

It is customary to support large reflectors just above lamps suspended over billiardtables, and, as the lamps and their supports are now constructed, the removal of the lamp for filling, cleaning, or other purposes is rather diflicult, and there is considerable danger of breaking the chimney while removing the lamp, as it is necessary to remove the lamp by lifting it up out ot'its support, and carrying it over to one side, seas to clear the support. v

The object of my invention is to obviate this difficulty, which I accomplish by so con structing the hoop which supports the lamp, and so connecting it with the remaining parts of the support, that it, with the lamp, can be easily removed, as more fully hereinafter described.

In lamps of this class it is deemed desirable to so connect the hoop to the lamp that the lamp cannot easily be removed by accident.

In the drawings, 61- represents a rod suspended from the ceiling b, cross-piece at the bottom ot'a. In each end of b is a socket, c. d is a hoop or ring, which receives and holds the lamp A. It has upon one side a projection, 0, adapted to enter and fit the socket c. f is a set-screw. The ring or hoop d, as shown, is so made that it can be clasped around a lamp provided with suitable flanges, holding the lamp so that it cannot be removed from the hoop without loosening the fastening. As shown, this hoop, which is to be made of suit able metal, is cut at g, and each end provided with a projection, h. These ends are held together by means of a screw, i, and by loosening this screw the hoop can be sprung, so that the lamp can be removed therefrom; or, in case of breakage, a new lamp can be placed there7 1n.

In use, 6 is inserted into the socket c, and is held there firmly by means of the set-screw f,- but the hoop d, with the lamp therein, can be very easily removed by loosening this screw.

It is obvious that the ends of b may be formed like 0, and that the socket may be connected with the hoop instead of being placed in b, and the result will be the same.

To remove the lamp, loosen the set-screwf; then the hoop and the lamp can be removed by withdrawing the part c from the socket c,

. to do which it will only be necessary to move the hoop and lamp but a very short distance; then the lamp can be moved directly down, and there will be no danger of bringing the chimney in contact with the reflector.

I have shown but one lamp; but in use a second lamp must be used opposite to the one shown. I

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:

In a lamp-support, the suspended cross-bar I), having socket c and set-screw f, in combination with the clamping-hoop (1, having stem e, and projections h and screw i, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
