This invention relates to new and useful improvements in drilling machines and more particularly to means whereby to retaln objectsto be drilled, in their proper positions 5 while being drilled. A'further object of the invention is the provision of a device'of the above character wherein the article carrier'can be made a singlepiece or in several pieceswith each pieceprovided with an article recelv ng seat.
With the aboveand other objects in view I the'invention consists in the novel features of construction, the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which I Figure 1 Visa side elevation of a drilling device constructed in accordance with my invention Figure 2 is a top plan view. Figure 7 is an edge view of the plate illus In the accompanying drawings it will be noted that the entire device is supported u on a hollow base or standard 1, the lower en of which is formed with an annular flange 2, formed with openings 3 to receive any 'suita- 5 ble type of fastening members to secure the base to a solid foundation. The upper end of the standard is also formed withan annular outstanding flange 4. which forms a suitable base or support'for the other parts of the' device. Mounted upon the standard 1 and removably secured thereto by means of the screw bolts 5 is thebottoin plate 6,' which isformed with a groove 7, having its ends terminating into atransverse opening 8 through which the finished articles are dispensed. The perimeter of the bottom plate 61is formed with an annular rib 9 forming a bearing surface upon which the circular carrier ring 10 is rotatably mounted. The lower edge of thering 10 is r provided with an annular rib 11 which'pro- :jects inwardly and which engages beneath the rib 9 to retain the ring '10 against riding up wardly on the rib 9.
Threaded into the outer ring 10 and engaging the upper face of the rib 9 is a retaining ring 12 to which the carrier sectors 13 are secured by means of the set screws 14. The outer edgeof each sector plate is formed with a lip 15 which projects over the ring12 and is formed withan arcuate slot 16to,receive its respective set screw 14:, so'thateachsector can beindependently adj usted and retained in its proper adjusted position. The innerend of each sector is formed with a reduced part which is pivotally connected to theffla'nged head ofa button like member 17, means of the screw 18, said screw operating in an arcu ate groove 19 and bearing against the sector to retain the inner end of the sector in its proper adjusted position. q
Each sector 13 is formed with an article receiving seat or openingQO, said seats or openings being of different shapes or of such shape as desired to accommodate articles of difierent shapes. These seats or openings are preferably positioned in line or abovethe groove 7, so that thewaste material from the drilling will be'received by them. In order 'to properly position the articles to be drilled beneath the drill and retain them in this position, the ring 12. is formed with a circular series of conical openings 21, any one of which is adapted to receive the conical end 22 of the adjustable retaining member 23. The
retaining member 23 is threaded and adjusta- I bly mounted in thesupporting sleeve 24 on the upper end of the bracket 25. This bracket 25 is removably mounted upon the standard 1 by means otthescrew bolts 26,"the lower end of saidbracket being seated in a suitable recess formed in one side of the standard. A removable screw bolt 26 i's'also extended through the bracket and engaged" with the bottom plate 6 The drill holder 27 is adjustably supported upon a bracket 28, which is removably attached to-the standard 1 and upon'which is mounted'an adjustablestandard or arm 29, The standard or-arm is'formedwith'a longitudinal slot 30 which receives the set screws 31 on the bracket 28,. whereby the arm 29 can be; raised or lowered and retained in its adjusted position. It will be noted that the waste material from the drilling will drop down into the groove-7 from. where it may: be readily cleaned out.
