Description

Sept. 16, 1930. A. aLocKwocD f 1,776,161
EJEMING DEVICE Filed Fb. l0. 1928 ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 16, 1930 UNITED STATES ARTHUR GEORGE LOGKWOOD, OF FRENCH LICK, INDIANA EJEcTING DEVICE Application led February 10, 1928. Serial No. 253,475.
This invention relates to certain novel improvements in ejecting devices and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly efficient in use and economical in manufacture.
Among the objects of my invention is to provide an ejecting device which will be particularly adapted for mounting in a lo rim such as employed in golf course holes.
An object of the invention, ancillary to the foregoing is to provide such an ejecting device which will embody an arrangement whereby it will be caused to throw golf balls g5 from the rim after entrance into said rim so as to obviate the necessity of a player stooping down to extract the ball from the rim. The invention will be particularly advantageous when used in association with miniature courses or so-called putting courses wherein the holes are close together and obviously a great deal of stooping is required which exhausts the player.
A further object of the invention is to arrange a device of the above named character such that it will not injure the balls and also such that it may be easily manipulated.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to' the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a golf course hole rim embodying a preferred form of construction for my invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2--2 on Fig. 1;
In the drawings wherein a preferred` embodiment of my invention is illustrated, 10 indicates a so-called rim such as is employed to line the holes in a golf course. This rim 10 is elongated so as to form a receptacle and mounted adjacent the lower end of this rim is a web construction which is adapted to be suitably secured to the rim 10 by the bolts 12. In the web 11 at substantially the mid-point of the rim v10 which is preferably of circular outline, a socket 13 is provided which is adapted to support the marker rod 14. The above mentioned construction inay be of any desired type since the particular formation thereof forms no part of my invention.
Mounted on the web 11 isa post -14 which has provided at the upper end thereof an arm 15 and this construction provides a substantially T-shaped supporting structure. A plate 16 is provided which embodies portions 17 and 18 which are adapted to be disposedat an angle to each other and the oining point of these two portions is adapted to be mounted above the arm 15. Suitable means such as the wire-like clips 19 extend through the plate 16 and surround the arm 15 in order that the plate 16 will be supported by said arm for pivot-al movement thereabout. The portion 18 is adapted to be of greater size andweight than the portion 17 and therefore when the device is in normal position this portion is adapted to extend downwardly as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 and under these conditions the por tion 17 is adapted to be disposed substantially horizontal. An opening 2O is provided in the portion 18 in alignment with the socket 13 in order that the marker supportiig post 14 maybe extended through said ate. p During the playing ofthe game as is understood, balls are caused vto fall into the receptacle defined by the rim 10 and the balls will collect in this receptacle in the manner such as that depicted by the ball 21 in the Y the appended claims.
drawings. When it is desired to remove the ball from the receptacle the player inserts a suitable implement into the limb 11 so as to engage the portion 17 and forces this portion downwardly preferably by means of a comparatively sharp blow and this rapid downward movement of the portion `17 will cause the portion 18 to rise in a comparatively rapid manner and this will tend to throw the ball 21 from the receptacle. If desired, the handle portion of a golf club may be used as the implement to strike the portion 17 in 4order lto eject thevball from the receptacle.
and a portion extending downwardly toward said first named member, said last named portion having an opening` therein in alignment with said socket, said parallely extending portions being arranged to one side of the pivotal mounting for said plate whereby an implement moved into engagement therewith may be employed to move the other portion of said plate upwardly from engagement with said first named member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
- ARTHUR GEORGE LOCKWOOD.
It is apparent from the foregoing description that I have provided asimple and economical device which may be very easily manipulated to eject golf balls from the receptacle into which they are caused to fall. Itis apparent that the device will have other uses which will fall within the purview of my invention.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into eect, this is capable of variat-ion and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. l I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scopefof Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is i 1. In a device of the character stated, a cylindrical casing, a member extended across said cylindrical casing having a centrally located socket provided therein into which a shaft may be fitted, a post member extending upwardly from said member parallel to said shaft, a plate having an enlarged opening therein through which said shaft may be extended, means for connecting said plate on said post member whereby a portion thereof will extend parallel to said rst named member and the portion thereof having said opening therein will extend downwardly and rest on said first named member whereby an implement may be moved into engagement with the parallel portion thereof to cause the other portion thereof to move upwardly. 2. In a device of the character stated, a substantially cylindrical casing, a member extended across said casing having a centrally located socket provided therein, a post member extended upwardly from said member to one side of said socket, said post member having a rightangularly extending member provided at the upperend thereof, a plate member, means extended through openings in said plate member and about said rightangularly extending portion for pivotally connecting said plate lmember' thereto, said plate member including a portion extending parallel to said first named member
