Description

Sept. 2, 1930.
P. SCZEPCZENSKI LOCK Filed Feb. 25,- 1929 P020 JCZF/d Patented Sept. 2, 1930 UNITED STATES PETER SCZEPCZENSKI, OF NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OFFORTY -NINE PER CENT TO JOHN STEMPIEN, OF NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK r LOCK Application filed February 25, 1929.
simple in construction, yet durable and strong.
A. further object in the invention is the provision of padlock having a resiliently mounted dog which is directly engagea-ble by a key to move the dog from engagement with the notched end of a shackle.
These and other cbj ects are attained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, con stituting a material part of this disclosure and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the lock.
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the lock in closed position.
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of the lock in an open position.
Figure 4 is a view taken along the line 4:4: of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a view taken along the line 55 of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a bottom view of the lock.
Referring to the drawing, the padlock is shown to have a casing 7 provided with an orifice 8 in its upper surface through which passes the free end of a shackle 9, which is pivoted to the casing at 10.
The free end of the shackle 9 is provided with a notch 11, which is engageable by the hook 12 of a Z-shaped dog 13, the other end 14 of the dog being provided with a flange 15 transverse to the longitudinal axis of the dog. I
lhe dog is rigidly fixed to the upper end of a leaf spring 16, which is securely attached to the block 17 the latter being fixed to the casing by a rivet 18.
The flange 15 of the dog is engageable by a key 19 whichpasses through a device 20 4.2 which prevents the insertion of all keys ex- Serial No. 342,413.
cept the proper key, the structure of the device 20 being of a well known and common type and forms no part of this invention.
In operation, the key 19 is inserted through the key hole 21 in the bottom of the lock, and is rotated in the device 20 so that its edge, during the rotary movement will move the keeper towards the rear wall of the casing and disengage the hook from the notch 11. The shackle 9 may then be withdrawn. When it is desired to close the lock, the shackle is pressed inwardly through the orifice 8 and the hook 12 snaps into engagement with the notch 11 to prevent unauthorized withdrawal of the shackle.
The foregoing is to be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only and not as restrictive or limitative of the invention, of which obviously an embodiment may be constructed including many modifications without departing from the general scope herein indicated and denoted in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A padlock, comprising a casing having an aperture, a shackle pivoted to the casing and having its free end adapted to pass through the aperture, the free end of said shackle provided with a notch, adog, a hook at one end of the dog engageable with the notch, a leaf spring to which the dog is fixed, said spring normally holding the hook in engagementwith the notch, and a flange at he other end of the dog, said flange adapted to be engaged by a key for disengaging the hook from the notch in the shackle.
2. A padlock comprising a casing having an aperture in its upper wall, a shackle pivoted in said casing and having a notch in the inner face of 1ts free end adapted to be passed through the'aperture in the casing, a V
. substantially Z-shaped dog horizontally disof said dog adapted to engage the notch in said shackle, a flange transversely disposed at the opposite end of said dog, a block secured in the lower end of the casing, a leaf spring attached to said block carrying said dog and tending to engage the hook with the notch in said shackle, and a rotary key guide within said casin permitting the insertion and rotation of a key to engage the transverse flange of said dog for disengaging its hook from the notch of said shackle allowing an opening of the look.
In Witness whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
PETER SCZEPCZENSKI.
