The object of the invention is to provide a machine adapted to aid in assembling the cups of a muflier used Vin connection with the eXhaust gasesof an internalcombustion engine of` automobiles. Platform 20 carrying stay rods 16, 16 in vertical position thereon Will move upward automatically, as cups 12 are built upward upon each other, under the influence of Weight 55, Whereby to be in position to project rods 16 through the corresponding apertures made in each cup v12 as each is successively placed on top of the next lowermost cup 12.

2. In a cup assembling machine, a member for holding a cup, a` movable member for pressing a second cup into close contact with the first cup and a hangerrconnected to said movable means, whereby toproject stay rods through saidfcups.
3. In a cup assembling machine, means for` supporting' a cup, a. movable member for forcing a, second'cup into close contact with the first named cup, gear means for actuating said movable member, and means connected with z said movable member for projecting stay rods Vthrough said. cups.
