STRAP END CONNECTING MEANS Filed Oct. 12, 1929 Patented Aug. 26, 1930 means for permanentlyaattachinga strap end to an article suchas a wrist watchhaving bar means thereon for attachment of a strap end thereto; While my invention may be employed with any type of a strap itis pref- 'erably employed in combination with a strap having an automatic strap tightener of-the type shown in said application. My invention is adaptedfor use in an article wherein the barmeansthereof is-permanently attached thereto and is particularly adapted for use in an article wherein thebar means there of are detachably secured thereto.
' ,These and such other objects of my inv'ention as may hereinafter appear willbe best understood from the. description of the accompanyingdrawings. 1 a
i Inthe drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a wrist watch bracelet wherein my improved attaching means is employed to'atbar means employed on the opposite ends of the wrist. watch, t I

BERNARD, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND STRAP-END-CONNECTING, MEANS Application filed October 1 2, 1929. Serial No. 399,343.
of said strap, said wrist watch being provided with transversely extending bar means 13, projecting from each end thereof forattachf ment of each strap-end thereto. Though I have shown my invention in use for attachment for both endsof'the strap to a wrist watch. or other article having bar means attached thereto, it is obvious that my improved device may be employed for attachingany'type of strap to any type of article having bar means for this purpose attached thereto. As shown in the drawings, I preferably provide the improved strap tightener 16 shown and claimed in my aforesaid application, though it is obvious that my invention may be employed for attaching any type of a strap end to such an article.
Said strap 10 is provided with the ends 2 1 and-a8 and the wristwatch 12 is as stated provided with the bar means 13 aforesaid.
My invention consists of the improved means i I employ to fixedly attacheach end 2e and 48 respectively of said straplO to its respective means 13. My improved type of attachlng means to fixedly attach each end of said strap to the bar means 13 comprises the plate member having thebar receiving preferably pliabledownwardly projecting hook 62 at the outer end thereof, bent over to form the curved bill 63, and b0dyr65 preferably'pro- I vided with the central slit 64 in the bill 63 thereof. Said member 60 has a strap clamp 66 pivoted to the rearwardly projecting side flanges 68 thereof at the inner end thereof,
said clamp having preferablyfa toothed edge 70 to clamp the strap end 24 against said member 60 and can 'outwardly projecting tongue 72 rearwardly curved as at 74 and preferably having a finger nail operative portion 76; projecting outwardly therefrom adapted to pijvot rearwards through said slit 64 in the bill of said end hook 62 and adapted to be permanently retained in locked positionunder said bar means 13 within and be tween the bill GS'andbody 65 of said hook 62. AsfshOwnmOre particularly in Fig. 3, the hook 62 is preferably pliable so that on insertion ofsaidbar means 13 therein said hook may be further bent over saidbar means; to brin the bill 63 thereof 019361 to he body 65 thereof to more securely bind said strap end to said bar means.
If desired, however, I may employ a bar means of a type which may be detachably secured to said article. In this case as shown in Fig. 1 the article is provided with the out-- wardly projecting spaced lugs 80 each having the transverse pivot holes 82 therein. Said bar means 13 is provided with the pintles 84 and 86 projecting outwardly from each end thereof. The pintle 8a is preferably resiliently mounted within the hollow interior S8 of one end of said bar means 18 and is provided with the enlarged piston head. 90 within the hollow portion of said bar means adapted to be resiliently urged outwardly by the spring 92 contained within the hollow portion of said bar means. It is thus obvious that if a detachable bar means of this type be employed that the bar means 13 may first he slid longitudinally within said hook 62 over the tongue 76 thereof and then that said pintles 84' and 86 of said bar means 18 may be detachably secured within the pivot holes of said lugs 80 by depression of the resiliently mounted pintle 84 during insertion of said pintles within said pivot holes 82 and it is also apparent that by employing this construction the bill 63 of the hook 62 need not be made pliable or bent over afterwards to firmly overlap the bar means 13 to securely bind the strap end 2 1 to said article 12 with the portion of said tongue retain ed underneath said bar means 13 within and between the bill 63 and body 65 of said hook 62.
It is understood that my invention is not limited to the specific embodiments shown and that various deviations may be made therefrom without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
VVhat' I claim is:
