of said strap, said wrist watch being provided with transversely extending bar means 13, projecting from each end thereof forattachf ment of each strap-end thereto. Though I have shown my invention in use for attachment for both endsof'the strap to a wrist watch. or other article having bar means attached thereto, it is obvious that my improved device may be employed for attachingany'type of strap to any type of article having bar means for this purpose attached thereto. As shown in the drawings, I preferably provide the improved strap tightener 16 shown and claimed in my aforesaid application, though it is obvious that my invention may be employed for attaching any type of a strap end to such an article.

If desired, however, I may employ a bar means of a type which may be detachably secured to said article. In this case as shown in Fig. 1 the article is provided with the out-- wardly projecting spaced lugs 80 each having the transverse pivot holes 82 therein. Said bar means 13 is provided with the pintles 84 and 86 projecting outwardly from each end thereof. The pintle 8a is preferably resiliently mounted within the hollow interior S8 of one end of said bar means 18 and is provided with the enlarged piston head. 90 within the hollow portion of said bar means adapted to be resiliently urged outwardly by the spring 92 contained within the hollow portion of said bar means. It is thus obvious that if a detachable bar means of this type be employed that the bar means 13 may first he slid longitudinally within said hook 62 over the tongue 76 thereof and then that said pintles 84' and 86 of said bar means 18 may be detachably secured within the pivot holes of said lugs 80 by depression of the resiliently mounted pintle 84 during insertion of said pintles within said pivot holes 82 and it is also apparent that by employing this construction the bill 63 of the hook 62 need not be made pliable or bent over afterwards to firmly overlap the bar means 13 to securely bind the strap end 2 1 to said article 12 with the portion of said tongue retain ed underneath said bar means 13 within and between the bill 63 and body 65 of said hook 62.

It is understood that my invention is not limited to the specific embodiments shown and that various deviations may be made therefrom without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

VVhat' I claim is:

1. Means to fixedly attach a strap end to an article having bar means for attachment thereof to said strap end comprising a memher having a bar receiving downwardly projecting hook having a bill and a body and having a slit in the bill thereof, a strap clamp pivoted to said member at the inner end thereof having a portion to clamp the end of said strap against said member and an outwardly projecting rearwardly bent tongue having an operating portion adapted to pivot downwards through said slit in the bill of said end hook and of a length to extend and to be permanently retained in locked position under said bar means within and between the bill and body of said hook.

2. Means to fixedly attach a strap end to an article having bar means for attachment thereof to said strap end comprising a memher having a pliable bar receiving downwardly projecting hook at the outer end thereof having a bill and a body having a slit in the bill thereof, a strap clamp pivoted to said member at the inner end thereof having a portion to clamp the end of said strap against said member and an outwardly projecting rearwardly bent tongue having an operating portion adapted to pivot downwards through said slit in the bill of said end hook of a length to extend and to be permanently retained in locked position under said bar means between the bill and body of said hook, whereby after insertion of said bar means within said pliable hook said bill may be bent to closely bind said bar means within and between the bill and bodyof said hook.

3. Means tofixedly attach a strap end to an article having bar means for attachment thereof to said strap end comprising a member having a bar receiving downwardly projecting hook having a bill and a body at the outer end thereof, a strap clamp pivoted to said member at the inner end thereof having a portion to clamp the end of said strap against said member and an outwardly pro jecting rearwardly bent tongue of such length as to extend and to be permanently retained in locked position under said bar means within and between the bill and body of the hook.

4. Means to fixedly'attach a strap end to an article having bar means for attachment thereof to said strap end comprising a memher having a pliable bar receiving downwardly projecting hook at the outer end thereof having a bill and a body, a strap clamp pivoted to said member at the inner end thereof having a portion to clamp the end of said strap against said member and an outwardly projecting rearwardly bent tongue of such a length as to extend and to be permanently retained in locked position under said bar means within and between the bill and body of said hook whereby after insertion of said bar means within said pliable hook, said bill may be bent to closely bind said bar means within and between the bill and body of said hook.

5. In combination, an article having spaced lugs projecting therefrom, bar means adapted to be detachably secured between said lugs and means to fixedly attach a strap end to said bar means comprising a member having a bar receiving downwardly projecting hook at the outer end thereof having a bill and a body and having a slit in the bill thereof, a strap clamp pivoted to said member at the inner end thereof having a portion to clamp the end of said strap against said member and an outwardly projecting rearwardly bent tongue having an operating portion adapted to pivot downwards through said slit in the bill of said end hook and of a length to extend and to be permanently retained in locked position under said bar means within and between the bill and body of said hook, whereby said attaching means may be attached to said bar means without bending the bill of the hook thereof.
