ASSIGNOBTO VGLADYS. E. SHEA, Oil' CHICAGO, ILLINOIS f SANITARY BELT Application ma 4my a1,
l My invention relatesto improvements in belts of the type used to support sanltary na kins and the like.
n importantobject of m tioned character which will be comfortable to wear, adjustable for different sizes and conditions and having a posltlve and slmple to use.
Other objects and advantages of my lnvention will be apparent from the following description.
In the accompanying drawings whichforrn a part of this specification and wherein like characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts throughout the same.
Figure l is a perspective view of a beltA embodying my inventlon,
Figure 2 is a plan view of the front portion thereof,
AFigure 3 is a vertical sectional 'view taken through the front strap or tab,
Figure 4 is a detail elevation of one of th belt slides,
Figure 5 is a similar view of the connecting member, Figure 6 is a similar view of my improved rlp, f g Figure 7 is a perspective view of a modilfied form of belt, 1 Figure 8 is a plan view of the front portion thereof, 4Figure 9 is a detail section through the portion of the rear strap or tab surrounding the belt,
' Figure 10 is a detail showing the operation of the grip,
Figure 11 is a. detail of the belt ends, .Figure 12 is an elevationof one vof the invention is- 5 the provision of a device of t e above men-` 1927. Serial No. 195,488.
straps showing means, ligure 13 is a detail of the modified grip, an y, Y
Figure 14 is a detail perspective of a modified form of slide.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustrationis shown a preferred embodiment of my invention the numeral 15 designates a belt of elastic or other suitable material and of 'relatively narrow width. The ends of the belt are threaded through vertically arranged slots 16' in a connecting member ,17, of bone, metal orthe like, and are looped and secured to the center bars of slides 18arranged onthe belt'. The ends of the belt may be secured to the slide in any suitable manner, but are preferably provided with metal tips 19 which prevent the ends from' slipping out of the slide 18. v
I't will be seen, that the belt may be adjusted by moving the slides 18 thereby lengthening or shortening the belt. r
A strap or tab 20, corresponding inwidth and material to the'belt 15 is'looped about the connecting member 17 and secured therea modified.' form lof gripping to in any suitable manner. The strap 20 depends from thev belt passing through a slot 21 in the end of a grip 22 and is doubled upon itself and secured to the center bar of a slide 23 arranged on the strap and corresponding to the slides 18. It will be seen v that the length of the strap 20 may be varied by moving the slide 23.
The grip 22 is formed of bone, .composition ivory, or any other suitable material and is provided. directly below the slot 21 v'with a triangular opening 24;, the inclined sides of which are inclined downwardly and pro-l vided with teeth or other serrations-25.
An opening 26 is spaced below the opening 24 and has va serrated upper side 26, a'lower side 27 arranged in parallel relation there- With, and downwardly inclined sides 28.
The rear'of the belt is providedl with a n strap 20 similar to the strap 20 and provided with the slide 23', and grip 22 corresponding to the elements 23 and 22.
It will ,beseen that by reason of the two adjusting slides 18, adjustment ofthe belt 3o as shown, the flange being provided with proma effected without moving the straps an 20 oi center.
In the modification shownv in Figure 7 in lace of the two slides 18, one of the slidesl 1s replaced. by a loop 29' which is secured to one end of the belt, the other end of the belt passing through the loop and being doubled ack upon itself and secured to the slide 18', arranged as is the slide 18 in Fi ure 1.
The stra 20 is looped about t e* two thicknesses of t e belt between the loop 29 and slide 18', and may be moved with respect to the belt. Y
The rear strap 20 is looped about the belt and is also free to slide on the belt. After the belt has been adjusted to the propersize, the straps may be moved t0 the center.
Figure 10 illustrates the method of threading the ends vof the sanitary pad through the openings in the grip, the teeth or serrations 25 and 26, securely grasping the ad.
In Figuresv 12 and 13 a modi ed form of i grip is shown which comprises a small safety pin 30 having a'flange 31 on its back with a slot 21 to receive the strap 20.
Figure 14 shows a modiied form of slide which does not require the use of the metal tip 19 shown in Figure 11. In this form' of slide a flange 32 is punched. out of the slide and bent back across the center of the slide jecting teeth 88 to engage the end of the belt j or straps and prevent it from pulling' through the slide.
It will be seen that I have provided a sanitary napkin support which. is dainty, comfortable to wear and easily used. The belt is made of narrow elastic which does not tend to wrinkle and bind, as does wide elastic, 'and the entire belt may be assembled, if desired, without sewing. f
The new grip is always attached to the supi port, and the necessity for pinning is conseuently entirely obviated. This grip securely holds the pad, but can be quickly and easily released therefrom, and the pad .never comes into Contact with any portion of the supporting belt.
The Various adjustments make allowance for all conditions, and manufacturers need not be bothered with handling various sizes of belts.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangements of parts-may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A. pad grip comprising a flat. member having a substantially triangular opening there-vI in, the inclined lower edges ofsaid opening Illl
