The base of the cutting procedure is rapidity but it is only due to the progress Vin technics in modern times that it has become possible to create this base and to manufacture the protecting comb of the safety razor of light metal and of the necessary thickness, placing the blade of therazor in such a safe manner that even with the quickest movement of shaving the cutting of the skin is avoided. The well known safety razors lare supplied with small ears `which holdthe blades at the exterior edges in a fixed position for use, or which are placed along the side of thev blade between the projections. In practical use it has been found that this construction is faulty las it is impossible to regulate the position of the blade, and also it is'diiicult to extract same from the protecting comb. As guides within the signification of the present invention they are u nsuitable, and all the more so since hollow groundblades, due to the manner of their preparationforging and sharpening by hand`there is always a more or less important difference in mass work. The consequence is that owing to the lack of an exact and precise lay-on surface, the blade when being insertedl into the .protectin comb or when being pressed agalnst the@ s in, shifts slightly and. no longer fulfills the required object. Avery slight alteration of the position of the blade in the protecting comb sufflce's to destroy all protection of the cutting edgeand thus produces severe woundsin the skin when shaving. Moreover the earsat the side of the blade hinder the holding of same at the sides when taking` it .out or putting it into the holder. One is thereby obliged to take hold of the blade at the cutting corner, which, apart from being difficult and y.painful, results in serious Wound -to the fingers.`

In other systems the blade is not adjustable, butis held fixed inthe position for use, the cutting edge of the blade resting upon metal projections. It is quite clear that in such an apparatus the line edge of the blade is easily injured in use and thus is very soon spoiled. Thanks to the Pass casting system it is nowpossible to cast even safety razors of a dicult form out of light metal in a practical manner, and to adapt thereto such appliances that the hllow ground blade lies rigidly 'and free of all vibration, the blade being independentof the differences in exterior measurements and itting exactly within the protecting comb. As is seen inthis invention, the well known 'projections are missing which are usually to be found at the side of the blade. The adjust'- ment of the'blade is now effected by means of two long and wide guiding rails'c, d which are so arranged that they are to be found under`- the blade in two exactly fitting guiding grooves e, f which are milled into the underside of blade a. l j
In this manner, and by means of the four sides of the two rails, four exact and large lay-on surfaces are provided, instead of two small surfaces, such as are generally found s0 in the ordinary `safety razors, whilst at the same time an ,exact adjustment of the blade is assured, the movement of the bladein any direction being avoided. AAs the length of the blade a lies free above-the protecting comb ,85 b, and as it can be readily adjusted in its. breadth'b means vof the long guiding rails o, d, the lade, independent of its size, fits exactly on the protectin comb, even when, r if new or if after having en reground after 9 use, there are more or less unavoidable dif-f` ferences in .the size of the blade. The 1nterior sides of the grooves are not touched in the manufacture of the blade nor in the grinding of same. Thus every blade fits exactly inside the guiding rails, and is,also 1n-` serted into the protecting comb backwards,
thus avoiding a contact ofthe cutting edge as well as all injury to themetal ofthe protecting comb.
