NTTED STATES PATENT .l OFFICE.
JOSEPH K. M ILNOR, OE BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION WAGON-BODIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,142, dated May 9, 1876; application filed Septembtr 20, 1875.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH K. MILNOR, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagons, of which the following is a specification and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters ofreference marked thereon.
My invention relates to a wagon lthe body of which is constructed in such manner as to admit of its being extended longitudinally, as and for purposes hereinafter described.
In the description of my invention which follows, due reference must be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specitication, and in whichv Figure lis a side view of my improvedwagon, and Fig. 2 a plan of the same.
Similar letters of reference represent similar parts in both figures.
A is the outer body of the wagon, connected to the front wheels and running-gear; and B, the inner body, attached to the rear Wheels,
and adapted to slide within the outer body A.-
rlhe inner body B is tted with rollers a, which serve to lessen the friction of the moving parts in the longitudinal extension of the Wagon. The relative positions of the inner and outer bodies, which regulate the length of the wagon, are maintained by means of a slot, b, in the outer body A, and a bolt, c, which is secured to the inner body B, and passes through the said slot, with a thumbnut, el, on its outer end.
The advantages I claim for wagons constructed lin accordance with the improvements herein described consist, chieliy, in their adaptation to great variation in load and economy of space, in view of their capaci-ty.
Having'thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States, is-
l. aIn combination with the bodies A and B, the friction rollers a, substantially as described.
2. The slotted outer body A, combined with the inner body B and clamping devices c and d, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 9th day of September, in the year of our Lord 1875.
JOSEPH K. MILNOR.
