This invention relates tovwall facing tiles j and more particularly to a wall for use in the formation of finished wall faces which may be employed as a substitute for finished brick.
Animportant object of the invention is to provlde a device of this character which may be readily andrapidly installed and which is firmly anchored to the wall by supportsl which it carries andV without the necessity of other supports. Y Y
A still further objectof the'invention is to roduce a device of this character whichmay e readily and cheaply manufactured, which will bevdurable and eiiicient in service'and V a general improvement in the art.
' These and 'other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is showna preferred embodiment o'f my invention and wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view showing a wall faced with tile constructed in accordance with my invention; o
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof. VFigure 3 is a plan view of a single tile.V
\ drawings, the tile comprises a substantially rectangular body, ,generally designated at 10,
and having a smooth outer face 11. The side 0 edgesof this body are preferably constructed, as at 12, for tongue and groove engagement with adjacent tiles. The inner face'of the tile is corrugated, so thatit will be very firmly gripped by mortar placed between the wall face and the tile facing. The corrugation of its innerv face provides the tile at said 'face thereof with outer and intermediateV vertical ribs 13, which extend from the lower to the upper edge of the body of the tile, as clearly j 40 shown in Figures 1 and 3. y
In the process of construction, the body of the tile has embedded'therein flexible corrugated strips 14 which may either be bodily corrugated or .have their side edges corrugated as illustrated. Y
A tile of this character is intended 'for use 1n connection with brick walls and the tile lald as the wall rises. In applying the tile, the strips 14, which project from the body at the rear face thereof and adjacent its top, are bent at right angles to the body and are extended between adjacent courses of bricks 15 of the wall, so that they are embedded in the mortar 16` between these courses. Mortar is placed betweenV the front face o'f the brick `wall and the rear face of the tile, as indicated at 17, and asmall amount of mortar may, if so desired, be placed between the edge faces of adjacent tiles. The vertical members of the anchoring strips 14l are embedded in the intermediate ribs 13 of the tile, and the horizontal members of the anchoring strips extend from the ribs at points-close to the upper ends of the latter, as clearly shown inFigures l and 2. y n
It will be obvious that a tile of this character may be very readily and rapidly installed and Vwill eliminate the necessity for face brick so that the cost of construction o'f the Y building will be materially reduced. Referring now more particularly to the It will' also be obvious that the construction hereinbefore set forth is capable of a certainv` rangel of change and modication.
limit myself to such specific structure except as hereinafter claimed.`
I claim Y 1. A' wall facing tile comprising a body provided at its inner face with vertical ribs, and angular anchoring strips having vertical Vmembers, embedded inthe ribs and having corrugated Y horizontal members extending from the ribs at points close to the upper ends of the latter.V
I 2. A wall facing tile'comprsing a body angular in contour and provided at its inner face with outer and intermediate vertical ribs, the ribs extending from the lower to the upper edge of the body, the body being provided in certain o'f its edges with grooves and at its other edges with tongues, and anchorin strips having vertical members embedde in the intermediate ribs and having horizontal members provided with corrugated edges and extending fromV the intermediete ribs at points close to the upper ends of the latter. Y
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiix my l q signature.
