This invention relates to machines, and more particularly to truingat cation,
tachm'ents for grinding discs thereon. This application is adivision of our earlier. appli- Serial' No. 742,770, filed October 10, 1924.
The invention is particularly designed-to be applied to machines for grinding'twist drills. Certain features thereof, however,
are not limited to drill grinding machines but may be agpulied with advantage to other grindin mac es. The shaft 176 has a hand wheel 177 secured to the outer end thereof to enable the shaft to be rotated manually.
The slide 174 is adjusted by mechanism comprising a shaft 180 rotatably mounted in the slide and.held from longitudinal movement therein, the inner end of which shaft is threaded into the frame of the machine.
The shaft 180 carries a hand wheel 181 secured to its upper end. The truing tool for truing up the grinding disc 4 is indicated at 182 (Figure 3).
This truing tool is supported in position to engage the periphery of the grinding disc 4. The tool is secured in an arm on a slide 184: arranged to slide in a direction transverse to the plane of the grinding disc and preferably perpendicular to said plane. The slide 184 is mounted on a second slide 186 arranged to slide in a direction preferably parallel with the plane of the grinding disc. The movement of the slide 186 carries the grinding tool into and out of engagement with the periphery of the grinding disc and the movement of the slide 184 carries the acting end of the tool across the peripheral surface of said disc. The slide 184 is adjusted by a mechanism comprising a shaft 188 rotatably mounted in said slide and held from longitudinal movement therein, the inner end of which shaft is threaded into the slide 186. A hand wheel 190 is secured to the outer end of the shaft 188 to enable the same to be manually rotated. The slide 186 is adjusted by a mechanism comprising a shaft 192 rotatably mounted in the slide 186 and held from longitudinal movement therein, the inner end of which shaft is threaded into the frame of the machine. A hand wheel 194 is secured to the up r end of the shaft 192.
To enable the ateral face of the grinding disc 4 to be trued up if desired, the slide 184 is provided with an arm in which may be secured a second truing tool 196 arranged to engage the lateral face of the grinding disc. A grinding machine having in combination a grinding wheel to be trued, a truing tool, a mounting therefor arran ed to carry the tool radially into contact wit the lateral face of the wheel, a second truing tool, a mounting therefor arranged to carry the second tool into contact with the periphery of the wheel, said mountings being'so inter-connected that the movement of one tool across the lateral face of the wheel moves the other tool towards or away from contact with the periphery of the wheel.

A grinding machine havin in combination a rotary grinding disc, a s 'de mounted for movement in a direction substantially parallel with one face of the grinding disc, :1 second slide mounted on the first slide for movement in a direction substantially arallel with another faceof the grinding disc, a truing tool for one face and a second truingtool for the other face both mounted on the latter slide in such relation that one tool is carried into or away from operative contact with its face of the wheel by the same movement which carries the other tool across its face of the wheel in a truing operation.

A grinding machine having n combinationa grinding wheel, a truing tool for one face of the wheel, another truing tool for another face of the wheel, and a single carriage for said tools capable of movi in di- 10 rections respectively parallel to the aces of the wheel which are to be trued, said tools being connected to the carriage in such relation that one tool is brought into operative contact with its face of the wheel at the end 5 of the movement by which the other tool is caused to true its face of the wheel.
