Description

y 1930. A. BEKET, V 1,768,733
PORTABLE LAMP Filed May 51, 1928 INVENTOR Patented July 1, 1930 PATENT OFFICE ALAN L. IBECKET, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY I P ORTA BL-E LAMP Application filed May 31,
This invention relates to a device for supporting lamps, such as electric lamps, for example, so that the same can be readily employed and not be in danger of being easily knocked over or displaced. By following this invention an electric lamp of an inexpensive character can be constructed for many uses. 7
The invention will be understood from the description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 are side views of two types of portable lamps. Each device consists of an incandescent electric lamp 1, socket 2, reflector 3, and supporting strap 4.
In Fig. 1 the device is shown as a reading lamp, member 4 may be inserted between the leaves of a book and held therein by friction. Member 4 serves as a paper cutter in opening pages of a new book. It should be stated that the reflector is adjustable, the strap 4 being of light material may be easily bent at shoulder 5 to give the reflector difi'erent angles with respect to the surface to be illuminated.

which, when so inserted, holds said lamp firmly in position without spring action.
3. In a portable lamp, a long, thin, fiat, stiff strip of material having an end bent upwardly and a lamp socket attached near to said end, the other end of said strap being 5 adapted to be inserted between fiat surfaces and held therein without spring action.
ALAN L. BECKET.
In Fig. 2 an ash tray 6, is held between strap 4 and socket 2. The strap 4 may be inserted between the sheets of blotting paper of a desk pad blotter and held securely thereon.
I claim:
1. In a portable lamp, the combination of an electric lamp socket secured to a long, thin, flat, stifi strip of material adapted to be inserted under a desk pad or between the leaves of a book and which, when so inserted, co-
acts with said surfaces, without spring action, to hold and support said lamp in a position convenient for reading.
2. In a portable lamp, an ash tray forming the base of said lamp, an electriclamp socket secured thereto and extending above said base, and there being attached to said base a thin, fiat, stiff strip of material adapted to be inserted under a. desk pad or the like, and
