HOLDER FOR CHECK STUBS Filed Dem- 11, 192a MarIZWFBau/eS INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented June I 24, 1930 UNrrr. s rr MARIonr. BOWES, or PENSACOLA, FLORIDA HOLDER FOR CHECK STUBS.
Application filed December 11, 1928. Serial No. 325,213. I
able elements extending therefrom and,
adapted to engage the edge portions of the cover of the check book, the main portion being further provided with means for engaging the hinge or strip usually employed in connection with the binding of the sheets of stubs and checks. I
A further object is'to provide a holder including a main portion of the kind indicated, and a stub engaging device which may have slidable engagement with devices extending thru said main portion of the holder.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of elements described, illustrated and claimed, it being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming part of this application:-
Figure 1 is a perspective View showing a check book in open position, with the stub holder also in position.
Figure 2 is a View in elevation showing the holder detached, the adjustable devices as engaging the edge portionsof the cover appearing partly in dotted lines.
Figure 3 is a view in top plan.
Figure 4 is a View in section in a direction lengthwise of the'cover of Figure 1.
In Figure 1 a check book of ordinary type is illustrated, and the left hand cover 10 is the element to which the holder will be applied, one of the sheets of checks and stubs appearing at the-right and includ ng 45 stubs 11 and checks 12.
The holder as applied to the cover 10 includes a main portion 13 having a laterally extending. portion 14, the end of which is I turnedover at 15 in order to form an engaging device as shown especially in Figure 1-, this device being adapted for contact with the under side of the hinge member or'strip forming a part of the binding means by'which the sheets or stubs and checks are secured. 7 50 The main portion of the device further includes a turned under edge portion 17 forming a guide, and oppositely located turned edge portions 18, these portions 17 and 18'being adapted to guide slidable extensions 19 having their end portions turned under as shown at 20, and the latter being adaptedfor engagement with the edge portions of the cover 10, as shown especially in- Figure 1. The hooks on the extensions 19,- and the hook 15, cooperate in retaining the complete device in position in the book.
Provision is thereby made for applying the holder to check books having covers varying in dimensions, and in order to-pro-1 7 vide for the engagement and holding of stubs varying somewhat in size, and especially varying in number, I make use of the resilient U-shaped frame or bail comprising the central portion 22 and the leg portionsofis 23, the latter passing under the heads 2 I of fastening devices which are inserted thru apertures in the main portion 13 of the holding device. These fastening devices may include a pair of leg portions 25 adapt-" Q ed to be clinched on the under side at the point 26,so that the fastening devices are securely held, but do not clamp the leg members 23, because the latter should be slidable as above indicated. Headed end portions 27 may be formed on or applied to the leg members 23, and prevent the com plete withdrawal of the U-shaped frame or bail. .90
'Having described'the invention What is V claimed is In a holder for the stubs of checks, a plate I and guiding devices carried thereby, extensions slidable in the guides, the extensions including deflected ends constituting hooks for engaging the edges of the cover of a check book, said book including cheek-stub 1 binding means, and the plate including a hook to be passed through an element of the binding means, and stub holding means mounted on the plate.
Intestimohy whereof I al'ffixi-my signature. V
MARION F. BOl/VES.
