This inventi'on/relatesto improvements in clevis constructions for use upon traveling blocks for: the support of elevators and the l like, as used in the oil industry.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of an improved clevis which may with facility receive either single or doubleY link Wellcasing elevators, doing a'way with the common casing hooks now in use, and furnishing a much more eicient and safer device.`
A further object of this invention is the provision of a resiliently mounted clevis or becket of Vnovel construction.
A further object of this invention is the provision of an improved swivelly mounted becket for traveling blocks.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a novel becket ofv a sectional nature which may be opened to receive therein an elevator link in a novel relation.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description.

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown preferred and modiiiedfforms of the invention, the letter A may generally designate a traveling block of any approved construction, upon which the improved becket B may be mounted, either directly, as illustrated in Figure 7, or thru. the

The traveling block A -may include the spaced plates 15, as in well known construction, having a center pin 16 extending therethrough for supporting sheaves 17 in a rotatable relation, as well understood in the art. The particular traveling Vblock shown in the drawmgs is a triple sheave traveling block. Referring to the swivel or becket B, the
'same comprises sections 21 and 22, the same respectively including bodies 23 and 24, of elongated formation, which at their upper a0 ends/are provided with apertured bearings 25, thru which the bolt 20a may be received incasethe becket B is directly supported 'on the traveling block-as illustrated in 'Fig-- ure 7, or' which ma receive threaded spindles- 85 28, at the lower endl of the swivel frame C, in case the latter is used. The sections 21 and 22 are supported in a parallel; relation and the same at the lower ends are provided with reduced inwardly extending sup orts 30. and 31, which are complementary t ese supports each extending one-half the width of the body 23 and 24 respectively. In height the reduced extensions are less than the height of the bodies of the sections, sions 30 and 31 is providedV a s ace 36 wherein the link 37 of the single hnk elevator 1 may be received, as illustrated in Figure 1 ofthe drawings. and above the extenin the relation illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings, so that the supporting extensions 30 and 31 may be lmoved away from each other to permit the single link elevator link 37 to be received in the space 36, as is quite'apparent from Figure 3 of the drawings.
In order to maintain the sections 21 and 22 in' a secured position against liability of accidental opening at any time, a reciprocatin latch member 40 1s provided, reciproca lly carried transversely on the section 22, anend 41 of which is adapted to enter a socket 43, of the other section 21, in order to maintain the sections 21 and 22 against liabilf of accidentally coming apart. Referring to the becket Bias supported by the swivel frame C; the swivel frame C as illustratedin the drawing comprises a cylindrical ring shaped body 65, having spaced upper ' extensions 66 and 67 provided with top apertured bearings 68-and 69, adapted to receive the bolt 20 between the side plates 15, as can vreadily be understood. The ringshaped body at its juncture with the spaced extensions 66 and 67`^1s provlded with an annular shoulder 70,'and below the shoulder 70 is provided a socket 71, which vhas an annular shoulder-7 2 at theA bottom thereof.
The swivel frame C may also be consid- Y ered as` including a substantially T-shaped swivel bolt or member 75, comprising the vertical shank 76 which extends upwardly into the passageway 78. At itl I ppet end the 50; lsaid entrance ways; and the said extensions that in using the single link vertical portion 76 is provided with a de-` tachable adjusting `nut 79, screw threaded thereon, and below the nut 79 is received an anti-friction construction 80, consisting of upper and lower races with ball bearings therebetween; the lower race resting on the shoulder 7 0 when in elevator supporting positon. Between the lower race of the roller bearing anti-friction construction 80 and the shoulder 72 is a spiral compression spring 85, Vwhich normally urges the anti-friction bearing 80 away from the shoulder 70, to the position illustrated in 'Figure 2, and draws the becket B upwardly to the position illustrated in the said ligure. However, when a load is supported by the becket or swivel B, the load will pull the anti-friction bearing 80 downwardly upon the shoulder 70, under the weight of the load, and the load will be resiliently supported by the ve strong spring 85, to a certain extent, to bu action and relieving some strains on the 'construction. At its lower end the T-shaped swivel bolt 75 includes the body 88, from the ends of which extend the spindles 28, it being underthat the bearings 25 of the becket frame sections are connected at opposite ends of the body 88, as illustrated in the drawing.
From the foregoing description o'f this invention it is apparent that a novel -becket has been provided for supporting elevators, which may be swivelly mounted or directly pivoted to a traveling block, for supporting single 'or double link .elevators in a novel and ellcient relation.
Various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement o parts ma be made to the form of invention herein s own and described, without departing from the spirit of the inventionor the scope of the claims.
.I claim: 1
1. In a -t-raveling block construction a sheave, a sheaveframe in which the sheave 1s mounted, a frame horizontally pivoted di-v rectly on said sheave `frame, a reciprocating bolt vertically 'carried by thelast mentioned frame below its pivot connection, spring means normally urging said bolt upwardly,
-and an elevator supporting member carried by said bolt at its lower end.
2. Insa ,traveling block construction a sheave frame, a second frame, a horizontal bolt connecting the second frame tothe sheave frame, said second'frame having passagewavs therethrough, a single bolt` reciprocably mounted in saidA passageways for vertical movement, a spring urging the bolt upwardly into the second frame, said bolt havin horizontal extensions on the lower end t ereof,
and an elevator supportingframe movable on said horizontal extensions for horizontal swmglng. v
3. In anelevator supporting construction a frane comprising a5 bo y having a passageway therethrough, a vertical bolt in said passageway, said body having a lower shoulder in the passageway and an upper shoulder above the lower shoulder, an anti-friction bearing about the upper end of the bolt, means at the upper end of the bolt to prevent the anti-friction bearing from 'moving away from the bolt, a spiral compression spring around the bolt resting on the lower shoulder and at its upper end against the anti-,friction bearing for normally forcing the anti-friction bearing away from the upper shoulder, said bolt at the lower end having laterally extending spindles, a becket comprising a pair of section pivoted on said spindles, with the sections in spaced relation immediately below the bolt, said sections having spaced inwardly facing extensions at the lower end` thereof of a complementary' nature for receiving thereon an elevator link or hook.
4. In an elevator supporting construction a frame comprising a body having a passageway therethrough, a vertical bolt 1n said passageway, said body having a lower shoulder in the passageway and an upper shoulder above the lower shoulder, an anti-'friction bearing about the upper end of the bolt, means at the upper end of the bolt to prevent the anti-friction bearing froml moving away from the bolt, a spiral g compression spring around'the bolt resting on the lower shoulder and at its upper end against the anti-friction bearing for normally forcing the anti-friction bearing away from the upper shoulder, said bolt at the lower end having laterally' extending spindles, a becket comprising a pair of sections pivoted on said spindles, with the sections in spaced relation immediately below the bolt, said sections having spaced inwardly facing extensions atthe lower end thereof of a complementary nature for receiving thereon an elevator link or hook, and latch means for holding said sections together against relative pivotal movement-on said spindles.

In a becket the combination of a pair of sections each including elongated bodies having at similar ends thereof apertured bearings and at the opposite ends thereof having laterally inwardly extending reduced elevator link supporting complementary extensions, said bodies along the outer sides thereof having projections with outwardly opening link receiving sockets.
