This invention relates to a metal bracket and the method of forming the same. It.
has particular utility in the manufacture of bracket posts used for connecting the backs of certain types of chairs to the seats thereof as, for example, chairs commonly used in school rooms, although itshould'be under stood that it isnot limited alone'to this use.
An object of the invention istoprovide 1 a bracket for use as a seat post in connecting the backs of chairs to the seats thereof which is so formed as to provide a properly positioned back rest for the occupant of the seat.

These slat-shave their ends in engagement with the flanges 13 and are curved as shown at 24 in Fig. 1 so as to comfortably accommodate the back of the occupant of the chair, while the base of the arm lfi is bent or offset at 25 to enable the lower slat 23 to properly fit within the bracket and to lie flush against the base thereof. As already mentioned, in securing the brackets to the seat and back suitable means, such as wood screws, are passed through the openings 10. Because of the offset portion 14L at the upper end of the arm 16 the seat back will have a conformation properly arranged to receive the back of the occupant of the-chair when sitting in a natural and comfortable posi- Ordinarily chairs of this character are provided with backs which extend substantially straight upwardly or at a slight angle, instead of having portions of the seat back itself angularly disposed with respect to each other. -Having thus described my invention, what Iclaimis:
1. A bracket-adapted tobe used a post" for connecting the seat and back of a chair comprisinga metal strip flanged along one edge and angularly bent intermediate its ends so as toform angularly disposed arms each having a base portion and a flange portion, astrengthening rib formed in said strip and adapted to include the angle between the arms, one of said arms having an end angularly offset with respect to the remain ing portion thereof, said arm also having a part of its base portion'offset with-respect to theremaining part thereof, and/a strengthening angle member secured to the flange, at the junction of the two arms of-the bracket. l i r I :1 2. A bracket adapted to be used as a post for connectingthe seat and back of a chair comprising a metal stripv flanged'along one longitudinaliedge thereof and angularly bent intermediate its ends so as to form angularly disposed chair seat and chair back receiving arms, respectively, each having a base portion and a flange portion, said chair back receiving arm having its upper end rearwardly offset whereby the configuration of the back of the chair will provide a properly positioned back rest for the occupant thereof, said last named arm having a part of its base portion offset'with respect-to the remaining part thereof.
3. A bracket adapted to be used as a post for connecting the seat and back of a chair compr sing a metal strip flanged along one for the occupant thereof.
4. A bracket adapted to be used as a post for connecting the seat and back of a chair comprising a metal strip flanged along one longitudinal edge thereof and angularly bent intermediate its ends so as to form angularly disposed chair seat and chair back receiving arms respectively, each having a base portion and a flanged portion, a strengthening rib. formed in the base portions of said strip and adapted to include the angle between the arms, a strengthening angle member secured to the flange portions of said arms at't'he junction thereof and having a flange adapted to engage the upper side of the seat, said chair back receiving arm having a part of its base portion offset with respect .to the remaining part thereof, and said last named arm also having its upper end rearwardly offset whereby the configuration of the back of the chair will provide a properly positioned back rest for the occupant thereof. 7
