Referring to theannexed drawing by reference-characters, 5 designates a minutehandinounted upon a, cylinder 6 and eX- sstending radially into the hollow arbor formed by said cylinder and other parts hereinafter mentioned. 3.35 The cylinder 6 is journalled on similarlyspaced pins 15 carried by said frame piece 14. .The'foregoing' parts are covered by a casing-ring 16 fastened to the front frameplate 14. It will be observed that it is v4.0 important that the two hands5 and 12 shall be as close to the dial transparencies 36 (hereinafter described) as s, possible, in order to get as clear annnage or shadow thereof on the'scre'enas possible. In order tobring these hands to-thls desirable position, the support for the minute-hand 5 eX- tends outwardly throughthe rin -casing 16, while thesupporting-rod 12 of'the hour- "hnnd 12 must be extended-radially inwardly not only th tend gear 11 but the whole in the frame 14 and also through the gear-ring 6.
For the purpose of setting the clockhands, the wheels 8 and 10 are frictionally mounted on a shaft 17 of the clock-works, a manually-operable setting gear 18being arranged to be meshed with gear 8. Affixed to the shaft 17. is a supplemental gear 19 which drives a train of gearing consisting V of a pinion 20, gear 21, pinion 22 and gear 23, the gears 20 and 21 being removably mounted on a'plate 24 by means of a'removable screw journal-pin 25.. The-gear 22 is alsov removably mounted-on'plate 24 by a 1 removable screw journal-pin 26. The gear 23 isafiixed to a shafti2 7 by means of a screw 28. The shaft 27 is driven by a train of clock gearing connected with spring 29. The screw 28 also affixes to'shaft 27 a pallet-wheel 30having aplurality of spaced pallet-fingers 31 arranged in a circle and projecting forwardly. The plate 24 is pivotally mounted'on the. shaft 27 so that it maybe swung on a center coincident with the axis ofsaid shaft, and to hold this plate in its adjusted position, I provide it with an arcuate slot 32 and employ in connection therewith athumb-nut 33. With this mechanism, it will be observed that the spring 29 tends to drive the gear 23 with its palletwheel in the direction of the arrow shown on said wheel 23, and the train of gearing 1920-2122, being under the controlcf the. clock mechanism, serves to time the said pallet-wheel 30. By thus driving the palletwheel 30 by means of'a separate springactuated train of gearing, the workof driving the same is taken off the clock mechanism proper. V V
The advertisements are carried by disk 34 aiiixed to a shaft 35, theseadvertisements being, as formerly, carriedby transparent clock-dials 36 so positioned on the wheel that they successively register with-the hollow arbor in which the hour andininute hands operate. Aflixed to the shaft carrying the advertising-wheel 34 is a companion pallet-wheel '37 having paIlet lingers-BES BX. nwardlyatoward the front frame 14, "the are pall.et=wheels being overlapped at their adjacent rims so that the pallet-fingers of the larger wheel 37 will a pass through the openings between the r pallet-fingers of the smaller wheel 30. In this way, the clock-dial-carrying disk 34 is intermittently rotated, the intervalslof rest'being determined entirely by 26 the s ed of rotation of the smaller palletwhee 30. These intervals may be varied in length of time by varying the ratio of I the gears inthe train of gearing 20-21- 22-23, all'ofthese gears being mounted on v 80 a support whichis adapted to be moved to 'a position where a new set of gear-wheels V may be substituted. .It will be observed that the trainof gear-in 20, etc., is not employed 7 for driving the pa let-wheel 30, but simply II for the purpose of regulating the speed thereof {the work of driving the palletwheel 30 is performed by spring 29.
