Description

June 3, 1930. B. BECKER SANITARY GARMENT Filed June 1928 A r ca/m4 Patented June 3, 1930 BENJAMIN BECKER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI SANITARY GARMENT Application filed Tune 4,
This invention relates generally to wearing-apparel and, more particularly, to a certain new and useful improvement in sanitary garments especially adapted for infants.
My present invention has for its chief object the provision, as a new article of manufacture, of a garment adapted as bloomers to fit for sanitary purposes about the child.
My invention has for a further object the provision of a garment of the type and'for the purpose stated which may be inexpensively manufactured, which may be conveniently put on and'taken off, which is comfortable, sanitary, and healthful, and which is eiiicient in the performance of its intended functions.
And with the above and other objects in view, my invention resides in thenovel features of form, construction, arrangement, 29 and combination of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure lisan elevational view illustrating a sanitary garment embodying my in- 5- vent-ion; i
Figure 2 is a" longitudinal, or, with reference to Figure 1, a vertical,.sectiona1 view of the garment taken approximately on-the line 2-2, Figure 1;
Figures 3 and 4: are enlarged fragmental detail sectional views of the valve and stopper for controlling the flow and discharge of the liquid entering the garment; and
Figure 5 is a fragmental detail section taken approximately on the line 55, Figure 1.
Referring now more in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a practical embodiment of my invention, A designates the body of the garment, which is constructed preferably of any suitable waterproof material, and which structurally is of a closed-crotch form to fit, substantially as bloomers, on and about the loins and lower portion of the body of the infant, as illustrated in Figure 1. Tofacilitate such fitting of the garment, body A has leg-openings 1, 1, sealed and provided with elastic, as shown and is adapted to be pulled into place over the legs, the body A being 1928. Serial No. 282,710
retained in place preferably by means of suitable shoulder- straps 2, 2 connected'to the waistband of the garment. For purposes shortly appearing, the body A is formed ad Jacent its upper margin upon opposite' sides below the waistband with air-openings or vents 3, 3.
7 It will be understood that the body A may be readily provided or constructed in various .sizes and in -any suitable manner, and superposed and water-tight sealed at and throughout its upper and lower margin, as ate- 4, to thebody A and so proportioned as to loosely partly embrace the skirt portion A, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, is a slip plemental body B, which is also constructedof preferably any suitable waterproof material and overlying the front and rear of the body and concealing the crotch extension and so shaped and formed as to include apouch b, centrally disposed to depend at the crotch between the legs, as'seen in Figure 1."
Suitably fixed, as at 5, to the lower extremity of the crotch of the body A and leading therefrom into the pouch b of the skirt p013 tion B, is atubular communicating passage C preferably of L-shape, as best seen in Fig ure 4, and the pouch b of the skirt portion B has a discharge-outlet, as at 6, provided with V a suitable stopper or closure-cap 7.
The garment or bloomers is designed for use with or without the'usual diapenany liquid or water from the child flowing into the body-A, and then through the passage G into thepouch bof the skirt portion B, such liquid being permitted, if desired, to accumulate in the pouch b, and fromwhich it may be conveniently removed through the discharge-opening 6 7. To prevent such liquid passing back from the skirt portion B or its pouch 6 into the upon removing the cap body A, the lower legor portion 8 of passage Ois preferably diametrically enlarged to enclose for movement a valve-member 9, which is of tubular form, closed at one end, as at 9, and provided in its side wall with a plurality of openingsQ". The liquid flowing from'body A will unseat the valve 9, pass around the closed-end 9 thereof, and then through the openings 9 enter into the pouch I) of the skirt portion B. However, should any liquid from pouch I) enter the discharge end of the passage C, the valve-member 9 serving as a check valve will seat, at 10, in the member C and thereby close the member C against entrance of liquid into the body member A of the garment. It will be understood that the passage C may be constructed of any suitable material and has n'e'ferably a suitable cushi0n-covering 11.
As best seen in Figure 1, the. skirt portion B is suitably constructed and provided with overlapping pleats 6 throughout its depth to permit of ready expansion thereof for containing an accumulation of the excreted liquid ,and to enhance the appearance of the garment, leg-members D, D, of any suitable material are fixed, as at12, Figure 5, to the body at the edges of the leg-openings 1, 1, in any suitable manner.
The garment or bloomers may be inexpensively manufactured, may be easily put on and, taken. off the child, is comfortable, obviates many ofthe present inconveniences in caring for children, may be readily cleaned, and is highly sanitary and healthful,
I am aware that changes in the form, constnuction, arrangement, and, combination of the several parts of my new garment may be made and substituted for thoseherein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thusdescribed my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. As an article of manufacture, a sanitary garment constructed of waterproof material and consisting of a body portionprovided with suspension means at its waistline, and extending into a closed-in crotch-portion provided with leg-openings, a valve discharge opening in the lower end of said closed-in crotch portion, a skirt portion secured to the body portion at front and rear and surrounding and concealing the extended crotch portion of the body and provided with an extended pouch portion depending between the leg openings of the body, and a discharge opening in the lower end of the extended pouch portion.
2. As an article of manufacture, a sanitary garment constructed of waterproof material and consisting of a body portion provided with suspension means at its waist line and extending into a closed-in crotch portion provided with leg-openings, a discharge opening in the lower extremity of the extended crotch portion, an outwardly-opening check-valve in said disciiarge opening, a
plaited skirt portion secured to the body portion at front and rear and surrounding andconcealing the extended crotchportion of the body and provided with an extended pouch portion depending between the leg openings of the body, and a stopper-ed discharge open ing in the lower extremity of the extended pouch portion.
As an article of manufacture, a sanitary garment constructed of waterproof material and consisting of a body portion provided with suspension means at its waist line and extending into a closed-in crotch portion provided with leg-openings, an angular discharge opening in the lower extremity of the extended crotch portion, an outwardly-opening. check-valve. in said angular discharge opening, a plaited skirt portion s cured to the body portion at front and rear and surrounding and concealing the extended crotch portion of the bot y and provided with an extended pouch portion depending between the leg openings, of the body, and a stoppered discharge opening in the lower extremity of the extended, pouch portion.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
BENJAMIN BECKER.
